Sally KellermanThe following is a statement by Academy Award-nominated actress and pro-choice, pro-woman activist Sally Kellerman:
A blog post published by notorious anti-choice organization Live Action once again misrepresents the facts regarding Planned Parenthood and what it does to benefit the millions of women around this country.
1. Planned Parenthood provides access to mammograms by referring patients to locations that perform mammogram services and sometimes pays for them for women who cannot afford them. Planned Parenthood provided 170,000 breast exams and 6,400 mammogram referrals in the past five years. (Source: Media Matters)
2. Abortion services only accounts 3% of Planned Parenthood’s total activities. This is fact. (Source: ThinkProgress)
3. Government funding of abortion is specifically banned by law. Just as repeating a lie over and over does not make it the truth, repeating the lie that government somehow funds abortions through Planned Parenthood does not make it true. (Source: POLITICO)
The important thing is that Planned Parenthood provides women’s health services, cancer screenings, access to contraception, and support so that women can plan their pregnancies. Planned Parenthood helps women have children when they are prepared to love and care for a child.
