THANKSGIVING PARADE: TOO MANY PLUGS FOR NBC

Image
**** THE GLORIOUS CORNER Story By: G. H. HARDING **** Meghan Trainor At Thanksgiving Parade MACY’S PARADE --- I try to watch the Thanksgiving Day Parade every holiday as it’s just a pretty neat program from concept to execution, as well as an interesting barometer of where things are right now in pop culture. I actually rode in it years back with an artist I was working with and it was a totally unique ride to literally be in the parade looking out. Yesterday’s parade (its 88th) was intriguing as always, but there were so many plugs for NBC and NBC-shows, that at times it got a bit muddled. Matt Ryan, from NBC’s Constantine was there; even while his show suddenly shut down production last week. Go figure! They heavily tub-thumped the upcoming live Peter Pan, with Alison Williams and Christopher Walken as well. Clearly, they've had a number of rehearsals to produce the commercials. One thought: Walken as Captain Hook, looks to be quite the soft-

JUSTIN LONG AND TAYLOR SWIFT "SHAKE IT OFF"

Image
Justin Long When Taylor Swift, Kate Upton, Amanda Seyfried and Justin Long gathered for a recent Knicks game, Long was caught humming the hit song, “Shake It Off” by none other than T-Swift herself, he told HuffPost Live . Long: "At one point they were playing that song 'Shake It Off' -- that song, you all know it. It's one of those songs that really gets in your head, really crawls in there." Long then began humming the tune, forgetting that Swift, who sings the song, was seated right next to him. Long: "And of course she heard it. And she was like, 'Oh,' and sort of started laughing, and I was so embarrassed." But Long insists that it wasn't just a ploy to impress New York's newest Global Welcome Ambassador. Long: "I didn't do it so she would hear me. I wouldn't have done it had I been all that conscious of all that. But she was really sweet about it. She was, like, 'That&#

TAYLOR SWIFT HAS AFFECTION FOR JONI MITCHELL

Image
**** THE GLORIOUS CORNER Story By: G. H. HARDING **** Taylor Swift MITCHELL'S GIRLS --- At the moment, the music world is all about the female vocalists and there is none bigger than Taylor Swift; she’s literally everywhere. It's almost like she could do anything but there is one thing that won't be on her list, playing Joni Mitchell. Swift has admitted having affection for Mitchell's music but Joni doesn't seem to return the feelings. When word broke earlier this year that Swift was up for the role of Mitchell in the adaptation of the book Girls Like Us, Mitchell (Sheila Weller, 2009) quickly quashed the entire project. The terrific book looks at music through the careers of Mitchell, Carole King and Carly Simon and plans were to bring it to the big screen. In an article in the London Sunday Times, Mitchell said "I squelched that! I said to the producer, 'All you've got is a girl with high cheekbones'. It

KATY PERRY WILL HEADLINE SUPER BOWL HALFTIME

Image
**** THE GLORIOUS CORNER Story By: G. H. HARDING **** Katy Perry KEATON’S BIRDMAN --- We caught Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Birdman last weekend, but wanted to thoroughly brainstorm what we saw before putting pen to paper. We loved it and can best describe it as an existential treastie on one’s own work; initially very successful, but, now needing a good kick in the butt. Michael Keaton plays Riggan Thomson, who enjoyed years of success, essaying a comic-book character Birdman; he did three (like he did in Batman) and passed on a fourth installment. Now, trying a stage adaption of a Raymond Carver play (!), he’s going through the motions with the play; a daughter he never really got to know; an ex-wife that he still has feelings for; and, a girlfriend in the play, who may or may not be pregnant. Conflicting thoughts indeed. I’ve always loved Keaton’s work, from Night Shift to Batman to great interviews on the Letterman show … and, this

NICKI MINAJ SPEAKS AT AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS

Image
Nicki Minaj Nicki Minaj isn't exactly a stranger to wearing revealing clothing. She also isn't afraid to get a little sexy during her award show appearances. "Yes and people don't know that," she told E! News exclusively. "I feel shy a lot of times actually. I just push myself to go for it." Pretty surprising answer, right? HODA KOTB REPLACING SAVANNAH GUTHRIE @ NBC

Image
**** THE GLORIOUS CORNER Story By: G.H. Harding **** Matt Lauer Has Powers At NBC TODAY SHOW MADNESS --- What’s in the water over at NBC/Universal? Having just gotten somewhat over the Ann Curry-debacle, there’s been a flurry of stories about the morning show crew; with Natalie Morales and Willie Geist suddenly being fired and Hoda Kotb replacing Savannah Guthrie. Yesterday, on their 9:00-AM hour, the so-named Today’s Take, Geist and Morales addressed it directly. A big rumor was that Matt Lauer went to the powers that be and instructed them NOT to do this, which resulted in the immediate firing of a NBC exec.  The once untouchable Today Show, which is limping to the end of its 63rd year amid backbiting, talent anxiety, lurid headlines, and for the past two years, second-place ratings, have cost the network news division tens of millions of dollars in advertising revenue. This latest embarrassment—Monday night’s very public dismissal of NBC
