JEAN SHAFIROFF'S COVER AND RESIDENT INTERVIEW

**** THE AMBASSADOR OF GIVING ****

While there are many who have a favorite charity, there are few who devote a significant portion of their lives to it and even fewer who are the motor behind raising attention and financing for a myriad of different causes. But whether one mentions the NY Women’s Foundation, the New York City Mission Society, the Southampton Hospital or the Southampton Animal Shelter, the one name that keeps popping up is that of Jean Shafiroff. A member of eight different charity boards, Shafiroff is more than a donor or even a philanthropist; she is a woman on a mission.
With an MBA from the Graduate School of Business at Columbia University and a BS in Physical Therapy from Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons, Jean – after a brief stint as a physical therapist at St. Luke’s Hospital in NYC – went on to work both in public finance and in private partnerships on Wall Street. From there Jean gradually embarked upon a journey of devoting herself to …

ENTERTAINMENT PUBLICIST EDWARD CALLAGHAN OBIT

Image
Noted arts and entertainment publicist, Edward T. Callaghan, of Manhattan and Southampton, died at home of complications from cancer on April 25th, it was confirmed today by his brother, John Callaghan. He was 66 years old.

Ed Callaghan, as he was generally known to press, clients and colleagues, had been a virtual fixture on the New York arts and entertainment scene – with a heavy emphasis on music and theatre – since the late-1970s. He began as publicity and marketing director of the now-defunct Entermedia Theater and continued to the present: first with his company Burnham-Callaghan Associates throughout the 1980s, in partnership with Jacqueline Burnham-Kurta; then several solo enterprises; and, for the past 15 years, with his life and business partner, John Wegorzewski, in Alchimia Public Relations & Marketing. It was primarily through this final entity that Callaghan also ventured into the areas of hospitality, fashion, fine art, and high-end luxury items.

FULL RECOVERY EXPECTED FOR LEGEND JONI MITCHELL

Image
**** THE GLORIOUS CORNER
Story By: G. H. HARDING ****

JONI RISES --- As this past Tuesday ended, there were reports that singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell was in a coma and unresponsive . . . and then, several hours later, came news that Mitchell is "alert and . . . has her full senses" and is "not in a coma.”

The statement followed reports that the 71-year-old, hospitalized last month after being found unconscious at home, is not able to care for herself.

A friend filed a petition this week to become Mitchell ‘s guardian. Confidant Leslie Morris has now insisted that "a full recovery is expected.”

"Contrary to rumors circulating on the Internet today, Joni is not in a coma," said our source close to both.

"Joni is still in the hospital—but she comprehends, she's alert, and she has her full senses.”

"The document obtained by a certain media outlet simply gives her long-time friend Leslie Morris the authority—in the absence of 24-hour doctor care—…

MARIAH CAREY GIVES SCOOP ON CAESARS PALACE GIG

Image
Mariah Carey is really opening up!

E! News recently caught up with the 45-year-old singer to get the scoop on her upcoming "Mariah: #1 to Infinity" residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

"The rehearsals have been going really well," Carey told E! News exclusively. "It's been mainly for me about the music and about how to incorporate the songs. Just because they were all number one records doesn't mean they all make an easy set list...a lot of ballads and up tempos. So it's difficult to make it work seamlessly."

As for how she's getting into shape for her shows, Carey admitted she struggles with her figure just like all of us. "I've been trying to get there. I'm a regular person. It is what it is," she smiled.

Carey says her and Nick Cannon's twins Monroe and Moroccan will be spending lots of time in Vegas with her.

CAT DEELEY CHATS WITH LARRY KING ON NEW STARS

Image
So You Think You Can Dance's Cat Deeley sits down with Larry King on the Emmy nominated series Larry King Now and chats about the additions of Paula Abdul and Jason Derulo to the upcoming 12th season of the show. She also talks to Larry about her Hulu comedy Deadbeat.

English television host Cat Deeley filled Larry in on the new judges of the upcoming season of So You Think You Can Dance. On Jason Derulo, Deeley said, “You think he’s kind of really “dude-y” […] but actually he’s a stage school kid. He’s a tapper. He was writing music for Puff Daddy before he was Jason Derulo and he’s got a great sense of humor. Quite a naughty sense of humor, which is brilliant.” And on Paula Abdul, Deeley gushed, “I don’t know how she does it, but absolutely everybody falls in love with her as they meet her. I mean they swoon. Men, women, children, beasts.”

The charming reality TV personality revealed how the show plans to keep its audience hooked during the 12th season, “We wanted to keep it …

BRUCE JENNER'S EX CHRYSTIE SCOTT SPEAKS TO ABC

Image
Even before Bruce Jenner became an Olympic champion, his first wife Chrystie Scott said, he told her early on during their marriage that he was struggling with being transgender and wanted to “be a woman.”

“It was such a shock to me, but he opened up his heart and confessed,” Scott said in an exclusive interview on “Good Morning America” Monday. “[He said] he had to share this deep, dark secret and he told me he always wanted to be a woman and, understandably, I was speechless. I didn’t really know what to say.”

Jenner and Scott were married in 1972, and she was by his side as he took home the gold medal for the decathlon at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal. Jenner was crowned an American hero during the Cold War, and afterwards, endorsement deals and appearance opportunities poured in. His likeness became a nationwide brand, and Jenner appeared in ads, movies and TV shows.

But it was during their first year of marriage, Scott said, that the former Olympian told her about his iss…

RICHARD DREYFUSS WITH LARRY KING ON POLITICS

Richard Dreyfuss On PoliticKING

Larry King Guest Richard Dreyfuss explains his movement to bring American civics back into the classroom and why he doesn't vote.

DREYFUSS: So all the guys that are in Congress now, the Young Turks, and the Republican party, they never took civics. They never studied the Constitution, they never studied the Bill of Rights, and that’s why they say such stupid things. There’s two points I want to make here: First, Inarguable points. No one in this country understands the stories on the front page of any newspaper in this country. No one. We don’t understand the bail out, Wall Street, foreign policy, the fed, the prime mortgage controversy, the bank-- we don’t understand any story on the front page. Two: Western kids are now joining ISIS.

KING: Not in multitudes.

DREYFUSS: Well, it starts with a trickle. Why? Because even though it sounds crazy, it’s the only spiritual movement being talked about in the media. No one talks about the values of the enlighte…

BRUCE JENNER SPEAKS AND THE MONKEE'S IN ONTARIO

Image
**** THE GLORIOUS CORNER
Story By: by G. H. HARDING ****

BRUCE JENNER SPEAKS --- Fourteen million people watched, and here’s what I saw:
First, it was one of the most courageous things I’ve ever witnessed on broadcast TV. Second, I always liked Jenner and he certainly came across as confident that he was finally making the right decision after years of anguish, And third: of all those bleeding Kardashians, Kim apparently was the first one to step up and support him . . . with Kanye, of all people.
One journalist immediately termed it: “Bruce Jenner’s Coming Out Is the Millennial Moon Landing.”
I thought Diane Sawyer did a fine job, although perhaps Anderson Cooper or Ann Curry (yes, she's still positioned with NBC Universal) would have been interesting choices as well.
While Bruce kept saying it was a mostly private and personal choice, I just didn’t get why yet another reality show about his impending gender transition is necessary. Two days later, I still don't get it.

BRUCE JENNER COMES OUT AS A TRANSGENDER GAL

Image
The Huffington Post is the exclusive outlet for a compelling blog written by Linda Thompson, former wife of Bruce Jenner.

Below is part of the piece and a link to the full post.

There is also a additional piece written by Cavan Sieczkowski, HuffPost's Senior Trends Editor, on Bruce Jenner's interview with Diane Sawyer.

By now, Bruce Jenner has revealed his struggle with gender dysphoria.

I never would have dared to speak on this issue before he was comfortable enough to do so first. It is, after all, his truth, so I knew he should be afforded the dignity to reveal that truth on his own time and in the way he sees fit.

I have respectfully kept his secrets private and would have taken his confidences to my grave had he not spoken out.

But now, many years into his remarkable life, he has spoken out. His legacy will likely be sprinkled with references like "Olympian," "decathlon gold medalist," "world's greatest athlete," "son," &quo…

MARK RUFFALO TAKES OVER E! NEWS & SOCIAL MEDIA

Image
Mark Ruffalo's social media game is on point.

The 47-year-old actor is an active user on Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr and Twitter, and on Friday morning, he gave E! Online an exclusive look at what a typical press day for Avengers: Age of Ultron is like. "I'm pirating @EOnline's Instagram today!" the movie star told his 1.48 million Twitter followers. The actor is promoting the movie in New York City with his co-stars Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans.

Before he got ready for ABC's Good Morning America, Ruffalo contemplated what to eat for breakfast. Though his mother made sure he had plenty of "leftovers" in the refrigerator, he decided to have a coffee and a bagel instead. "It's important to prep before any public appearance. Murray's is calming. Good Jewish Soul Food."

Shortly after arriving on set, he noticed a fan holding a sign that asked a very important question: "Where is my Black Widow movie?" Ruffalo, who plays…

**** NEW RESTAURANT ON THE BLOCK ****

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Wahlburgers, the popular fast casual burger restaurant founded by brothers Mark, Donnie and Paul Wahlberg and subject of A&E Network’s Emmy-nominated reality show of the same name, will bring its gourmet burgers and specialty drinks to Coney Island with its grand opening at 3015 Stillwell Ave. early this summer.

"For our first store in New York, Coney Island is perfect,” said Mark Wahlberg. “It's all about bringing together friends, family and sharing good times, just like our brand. We're looking forward to partnering with a great team in New York and creating amazing memories at Wahlburgers."

Wahlburgers, which debuted in 2011 in the family’s native Hingham, Mass., is poised for expansion with 40 new restaurants either in development or under agreement. A Wahlberg family vacation favorite, Coney Island will welcome the first franchised store to open in the U. S. to be followed by six additional locations in …
