JEAN SHAFIROFF @ NEW SOUTHAMPTON AFRICAN AMERICAN MUSEUM OPENING

  Jean Shafiroff With Rebecca A. Seawright   The new Southampton African American Museum (SAAM) held a VIP reception and ribbon cutting to celebrate their historic opening. After sixteen years of planning, the transformed barbershop to Museum opened its doors for a community cultural experience highlighting incredible journeys of black people along unchartered paths from Virginia and the Carolinas north to Southampton, NY. Prior to the event, philanthropist, donor and volunteer fundraiser for the museum, Jean Shafiroff, donated $10,000 and raised another $20,000. The funds Jean helped secure is more than a third of their budget of $85,000 to run the museum on an annual basis. During her speech at the grand opening, she encouraged people to open their wallets and their hearts to contribute to the fundraising efforts which they graciously did. ARTIST DON HERSHMAN CELEBRATES FINALE OF RETROSPECTIVE SERIES INSPIRED BY VICTOR ARIMONDI

   Donald Hershman And George Wayne Artist Don Hershman celebrated the finale of his latest collection of original pieces, as part of a retrospective series inspired by the late Victor Arimondi.  In the show, Donald and Victor: Under The Influence, the inventive artist embodied his visceral need to pursue interests and creative expressions as he paid a loving tribute to his former partner who succumbed to AIDS in 2001. Hershman’s paintings recognizes the unique attributes of Arimondi’s work, featuring a display that is compassionate and reflective of our modern times. The exhibit can still be viewed until Sunday, June 27th, 2021. A feature film chronicling Don & Victor’s relationship, with a screenplay written by Don, is titled SHOOT ME BEAUTIFUL and is currently in preproduction. George Rush serves as executive producer.   Jean Shafiroff Philanthropist Jean Shafiroff hosted a special fundraiser for the Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation (SASF) at NAIA Restaurant at the Capri Hotel in Southampton, NY. Approximately 150 guests came together to celebrate the community’s animal shelter and all their hard work for homeless animals. The funds raised from the event was good start to the charity season the returning Unconditional Love Gala approaches later this summer.
