Marina Levitis

Set to star in the upcoming new reality show Russian Dolls—premiering Thursday, August 11, 2011 at 10.30PM (after Project Runway) on the Lifetime Network— Rasputin| Restaurant and Cabaret owner Marina Levitis knew she wanted to show the world more about her heritage! Emigrating from Rostov, Russia in 1988 with her parents and brother, Marina grew up with many Russian traditions. Wanting to embrace and share her Russian roots, Marina found it difficult to find a venue that blended her Russian flair with New York style! “I went to places that didn’t capture that Russian-American experience I craved,” explains Marina. “It was extremely frustrating!”

Moving to New York’s Brighton Beach with her high school sweetheart-turned-husband, an opportunity came that could only be described as fate! Rasputin| Restaurant and Cabaret was being sold and the owners suggested that Marina purchase the property. Realizing the opportunity for an extravagant modern Russian experience, Marina bought Rasputin to create a one-stop nightlife venue, similar to types on the Moscow scene. “In Russia, everyone knows that Rasputin means glitter and glam. It’s the best,” explains Marina. “I knew that if I was going to do this it would have to be better…it would have to be extravagant!” Trademarking the name Rasputin in the United States—with the help of husband and Rasputin’s Director Michael Levitis—Marina revamped and reopened Rasputin’s doors in 2007.

Today, Rasputin Restaurant and Cabaret is known for its take on New York City meets Russian nightlife and style. With Marina’s leadership and vision, Rasputin has become a one-of-a kind supper club, featuring a prix-fixe contemporary Russian menu, highlighting traditional dishes with a unique French spin, such as Steak Tartare รก la Rasputin, Black Caviar with Mini Blini & Creme Fraiche, Rack of Baby Veal with Saffron Wild Rice and Black Truffle Polenta Tempura Style. Guests can also enjoy an elaborate cabaret performance, exclusive to Rasputin, titled Pure Emotion, which includes tango dances, instrumental performances and aerobatic numbers. In addition, Marina has also formed The Rasputin Band, a ten member ensemble featuring five singers, which hits the stage and performs live music until 3:00AM, as food continues being served—in true Russian style—till 1:00AM!

Along with ownership of Rasputin and caring for two children, Marina is involved in numerous charitable organizations including Chabad's Children of Chernobyl, Russian American Jewish Experience, UJA-Federation of New York’s Russian Division and OR Movement, just to name a few.
