MISCHA BARTON ON HER MENTAL HEALTH

Former O.C. star Mischa Barton is shocked that she was placed under an involuntary psychiatric hold, and is insisting it could have "happened to anyone." Mischa was taken to a mental health facility in Los Angeles California in July and placed under an involuntary psychiatric hold after she called the police to her Hollywood home. Mischa has since blamed her heavy work schedule and a botched operation to remove two wisdom teeth for her very public meltdown, but she is very adamant her condition did not warrant such serious action from the doctors. She tells Britain's Heat magazine, "It's something that could happen to anyone -- going to the hospital and having a bad experience and then being on a 5150 (involuntary psychiatric hold) -- it happens to more people than you'd know. It's a common thing. I didn't know that when I went to the hospital, if they saw you were feeling bad they could just hold you like that, but it's an American thing, I suppose. "If you say that you're depressed, they hold you for your own good. I was shocked it went so far."
