STEVEN SPIELBERG ON HARRISON FORD

The Cast Of Indiana Jones

Director Steven Spielberg thinks Harrison Ford is not to old to play Indiana Jones and told Vanity Fair, "The 65-year-old actor has handled the dangerous stunts while shooting ‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’ ‘amazingly’ well. Spielberg, 61, said: ‘It’s 19 years since we did the third film, ‘Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade’, so we’re both older, and we both certainly look a bit older. But there is no way Harrison was too old for this role. ‘He needed to recapture the caustic, laconic spirit of Dr. Jones, and he had to manage the action, and he did both of those things amazingly well. He was just a little more out of breath after every stunt, and so was I!’ Ford also insists he was more than capable of slipping back into Indy’s famous fedora hat and wielding his whip.He also told Vanity Fair: ‘There’s something about the part that is a good fit for me because the minute I put on the costume, I recognize the tone we need and I feel confident and clear about the character.’ ‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’ - which boasts an all-star cast including Cate Blanchett, Jim Broadbent and ‘Transformers’ star Shia LaBeouf - is due to hit cinema screens in May.
