Guests networked and mingled at The JHouse Greenwich before Fairfield County Chapter Director Christine Oleynick welcome welcomed the over 70 attendees to the Fabulous Females in Finance event. Christine then introduced Founder & CEO Judy Goss who spoke of how Over 40 Females™ came to fruition when she traveled as a spokesperson for More Magazine. As a spokesperson, she met hundreds of women and heard their stories yet there was not enough room to fit them all in the magazine. This is why she started Over 40 Females, for women over 40 to be heard and celebrated and to “Connect, Encourage and Inspire.”

The first guest speaker of the evening, Susan J. Bruno, CPA/PFS Beach Wealth Consulting, LLC and Founder of DivaCFO, introduced her passion for increasing the financial literary of women with her three main focal points: statistics, learning and children. She also stated that women should think of their finances like a diet. Women understand that dieting means looking at where you are currently and where you would like to be in terms of your weight and this is how they should approach their finances. In the five steps of measuring, figuring out your goals, creating a plan, executing and reviewing, women can get their finances on track.

Galia Gichon, Founder of Down-To-Earth Finance then took the stage with an important message to the women in the room to create a spending plan. Keys to a sound spending plan are moving a percentage of your paycheck to a separate account or financial institution that is hard to get to, so you will not be tempted to withdraw that money. Ms. Gichon also stated that if you give yourself a weekly allowance not only will your finances turn around, but you can still live your life and enjoy going out to dinner and traveling. Lastly, she said to do a ‘spring cleaning’ of your finances. Look through your credit card statements and see what subscriptions you are paying for an not using or call your cell phone service provider and see what kind of deals they can give you.

Next, McKenzie M. Slaughter, Founder & CEO of “Beauty & The Bull Magazine” spoke to attendees about investing in the same way they spend. She had the women go through their purses and pull out different items such as a lipstick or their wallets and look at the brands they were carrying. She said instead of shopping these brands, why not invest in them as most are publicly traded companies.

Lastly, Susan Hirschman, CFA, CFP, CDFA and Author of “Does This Make My Assets Look Fat?” spoke to the Over 40 Females group about women assessing their finances now and not just during the 5 D’s of death, debt, divorce, disability or disaster. She also stated that the main thing to do is to understand what people are talking about in regards to your finances and do not be afraid to speak up if you do not understand.

After the Fabulous Females in Finance spoke, the over 70 attendees went around the room and introduced themselves and their businesses for further networking opportunities. The women then had the opportunity to win raffle prizes including a day of beauty at the Angelo David Salon, three one-night stays at The JHouse Greenwich, an eyebrow shaping with celebrity eyebrow stylist Joey Healy, a Christopher Fischer cashmere scarf, a $100 gift card from Soleil Toile, earrings from Stella & Dot, a membership to Equinox, a subscription to “Beauty & the Bull Magazine,” and six copies of “Does This Make My Assets Look Fat?.”
