IRVING AZOFF IS NUMBER ONE IN BILLBOARD
Irving Azoff In Billboard Magazine
Billboard just released their inaugural Power 100 list based on exclusive Billboard data and analysis by Billboard’s esteemed editorial team. The list is comprised of power players, game-changers and decision-makers from every possible sector of the music business including but not limited to promotions, management, recorded music, retail, touring, branding and technology.
Only a handful of artists make it on the list full of executives and they do so because of the influence they carry within the industry, not only because of their sales numbers. Jay Z and Beyonce (#13) are the top spot among celebs above U2 (#27), Bon Jovi (#50), Taylor Swift (#78), and Lady Gaga (#84).
Each of the six artists cracked the business ranking for unique reasons. "We couldn't weigh the power of an artist's fanbase against the power an executive has, or this would have simply been an artist list," says Bill Werde, Billboard's editorial director. "Our Moneymakers list is our artist list. But certain artists were able to break through to the Power 100 based purely on their business success or innovations."
Coming in at #1 is Irving Azoff. Most may not know Azoff by face, or even by name, but rest assured that the chairman of Live Nation - the world's largest promoter, ticketing company and artist management group -- is the most powerful person in the music industry. The Billboard Power 100 list illustrates where power and influence resides in the music business and the industries that intersect with it.
