Philanthropists Jean and Martin Shafiroff came up with the perfect recipe for shaking the winter blues - they hosted a lovely cocktail party in their beautiful Park Avenue apartment this week, complete with champagne, marvelous hors d’oeuvres form Robbins-Wolfe Eventeurs, a smashing piano player and filled one of the most interesting groups of New York’s movers and shakers. It was a welcome relief for everyone suffering from cabin fever as a result of the seemingly endless snowstorms this season.

Jean & Martin are passionate supporters of a number of important charities – New York Women’s Foundation, The French Heritage Society, JBFCS (Jean has been a board member for over 17 years), Lighthouse International, The Couture Council and Southampton Hospital for which she chaired last year’s fabulous Summer party which raised the most money in the history of the event. Jean has graciously agreed to Chair this year’s fete for The Hospital. The cocktail party was also a gracious way to say thank you to the dynamic couple’s many loyal friends who have supported and continue to support their efforts on behalf of these worthwhile organizations, as well as, a chance to introduce folks such as JBFCS CEO Paul Levine to new friends.

Always the consummate hostess Jean with the help of her beautiful daughters Jackie and Elizabeth and, of course, husband Martin personally greeted every guest upon arrival.

While a pianist played tunes from the Great American Songbook, the fashionable crowd swirled around the sprawling apartment. At one point, society orchestra leader and longtime veteran of many Summer Parties, Alex Donner picked up a microphone and delighted the crowd with several sweet ballads. A quintessential New York soiree!

The glittering assemblage included many of our favorite New Yorkers such as Ann Rapp, Gayle Atkins, Yaz and Valentin Hernandez, Mario Buatta, Hunt Slonem, Chuck Scarborough, Elizabeth Stribling and Guy Robinson, Barbara and Bruce Winston, Melanie and John Wambold, Robin Cofer and Domenick D’Alleva, Dr. Frank and Myra Weiser, Janna Bullock, Roger Webster, Stephanie Kreiger, Lee and CeCe Black, Geoffrey Bradfield, Henry Buhl, Kate and Alex Donner, Alexandra Stanton and Sam Natapoff, Lucia Hwong Gordon, Rita Cosby, Amelia and Bayo Ogunlesi, Robin Kearse, Peachy Deegan, Lisa Evers, Edward Callaghan, Craig Dix, Zita Davisson and Gary Lawrence, Victor de Sousa, Larry and Marilyn Friedland, Michelle Gerber Klein, Nancy and Gerry Geyman, Tom Gates, Kathleen Giordano, Dawne Marie Grannum, Debra Halpert, Michelle Harper, R.
