Angela Bowie

Angela Bowie has been making international headlines lately because of her association with her former husband, and her filmmaker son, but she is also about to show off her own creative multi-media talents as well. She has a new recording available, a new book in the works, and a concert tour. The album is a compilation disc for charity entitled "AIDSBeGone," and on it she has one of the standout tracks, the exciting dance number "Danse, Danse, Danse." Her new book is entitled "When The Boys Became The Girls" (Feral House Books), and is a firsthand account about the cultural impact of the sexual revolution of the '70s and beyond. In February of this year she wowed the crowd as the "Special Guest Star" singer at the sold-out "Andy Warhol Night" at the Rialto Theater in Tucson, Arizona with bandleader Chick Cashman. Her new concert tour will take her to England for live appearances in London April 9 at The Scala with The Glitter Band, and April 14 at the 100 Club for "AIDSBeGone Benefit" with Tara Rez & The Duel plus The Courtesans! On April 16 finds the gang in Birmingham playing at Eddie's Rock Cafe, and on April 17 in Manchester they are set to party down at Satan's Hollow. Back in the United States, Bowery Electric on May 19 is the site of the New York City "AIDSBeGone Benefit." According to her, "I am putting on my dancing shoes and going back out on the road to put my energy where my heart is, to raise funds to fight AIDS." It is about to become "The Year of Angie!"

A message from Angie Bowie: A Worldwide Epidemic

AIDS is an international problem; over the years, both private donations and government grants have been allocated to help study and try to solve the mystery of AIDS. For thirty years, AIDS has been killing men, women and children. It is an indiscriminate Grim Reaper. Since the recognition of AIDS, many people have donated their time and money to help in the fight against AIDS. When I first moved to Atlanta, it was after a trip there for Jimmy Lovell to open the Gay center and to do poetry readings to a group of ardent activist gay men and women looking and finding their place in Atlanta society. Later the volunteering was for Meals on Wheels for AIDS patients and shows that targeted either sick friends or specific AIDS services that were under-funded.

EDITORS EXTRA: Angie Bowie has been my friend for so many years and there is nothing more important to Angie than finding a cure for this horrible disease. We have both watched endless amounts of our friends die. We have lost some of the most talented people in the world to this horror!
