Long Island Attorney Bruce Blakeman announced yesterday that he is running for the Senate. Blakeman will take on appointed Kirsten Gillibrand. From his boyhood hometown of Valley Stream, Blakeman said,""Today I am officially announcing my candidacy for the United States Senate seat currently held by Sen. Gillibrand," the very well liked Blakeman told a cheering crowd of several hundred at a Nassau County American Legion hall. "I'm running for Senate because I share the anger, frustration and worry of the hardworking families of New York and I know I can make your voices heard.""I will be the only candidate in this race that has run statewide in New York," he said in a dig at Gillibrand, who was appointed to the seat by Gov. Paterson after Sen. Hillary Clinton became secretary of state. She was not elected. Blakeman was joined by former GOP Sen. Al D'Amato, who prominently stood by Gillibrand when she was sworn into office last year. D'Amato said to the Daily News, she's since become a Democratic "party functionary." "She interned in my office. Her dad is a great and good friend," D'Amato said. "She's going with the party as opposed to with the people, and I don't think that party is being fair to New York." Blakeman also said," "I don't know who I will be running against in November. One is a congressman from Tennessee. The other is the senator who votes like she's from Nebraska," quipped Blakeman. "I've got news for both of them: Memphis isn't Massapequa, Omaha isn't Olean, and Nashville isn't New York City," said Blakeman."

BRUCE BLAKEMAN FOR U.S. SENATE STATEMENT
I am announcing my candidacy for the United States Senate seat currently held by Senator Gillibrand.
These are turbulent times for the families of New York State and our nation. I am running for senate because I share the anger, frustration and worry of the hard-working families of New York.
Unemployment hovers around 10% and in some regions of our state it is much higher. Billions have been spent on so-called stimulus programs, but nobody I’ve talked to has been stimulated . Where did the money go? Unfortunately, the current atmosphere in Washington punishes businesses, successful people and middle-class taxpayers and threatens the very foundation of our economic system. Government should reward hard work, sacrifice, risk and ingenuity. These are the principals that made us the most prosperous nation in the world. We have seen the GDP and GNP increase when businesses invest in equipment, technology and people versus investing in government programs that are wasteful and driven not for the jobs they produce, but for the votes they can buy. That is wrong!
Our Federal government’s spending is out of control, forcing the United States to borrow trillions of dollars from foreign governments. Republicans, Democrats, Conservatives and Independents all across New York have participated in “Tea Parties” as a demonstration against the irresponsible obligations being imposed on current and future generations. This country cannot afford to run up record deficits that jeopardize the fiscal health of America and place impossible burdens on its taxpayers.
The security of our country is at stake when terrorists are treated as law enforcement problems rather than as a national threat. We must strengthen, not weaken, our intelligence agencies and we must give our military the resources to win in Afghanistan and Iraq. We need to harden our borders so we can maintain control over who we let into this country.
The trial of the terrorists in New York City who were responsible for the murder of my nephew, Sgt. Thomas Jurgens, and the other innocent victims of 9/11 is foolish and a slap in the face to the victims’ families. Similarly, treating despots like Ahmadinejad as legitimate world leaders who can be reasoned with is naïve and undermines the democratic forces within Iran that seek to overturn his brutal and dangerous regime.
In America, despite its flaws, we have the greatest health care delivery system in the history of the world. So instead of tweaking the health care system to work better for the uninsured and underinsured, why is Washington attempting to dismantle a system that works well for most Americans? It doesn’t make sense.
Most of what’s going on in Washington these days makes no sense at all. I will bring a no-nonsense, common-sense approach to the issues facing our country based upon the tried and true values of affordability, accountability and responsibility while recognizing that, in dealing with our enemies and friends, strength and power earn respect. Weakness and indecision invite disaster.
It would be a privilege and honor to serve as your senator. I ask you for your vote and support.

Editors Extra: Everyone that's reads Times Square Gossip knows that I am Republican, but also knows I vote for the right person for the job. I will support a democrat just as much as I would support a Republican, as long as I think they are right for the job. Many politicians are my good friends, but that does not mean they are right for the job. They always say, " A apple does not fall far from the tree', and having known Bruce Blakeman and his family since I was a baby, I know first hand at what a wonderful family the Blakemans are. Bruce's dad Bob is a well respected lawyer throughout New York State just like his son Bruce. Bruce's whole family has always been involved in public service in one way or another. When I told my mother the other night that I ran into Bruce at a event, and put Bruce on the phone with her, she said, " I love that family so much. Out of all my friends that have passed away, I miss Betty the most ( Bruce's Mother). I want you to know how wonderful and caring the Blakemans have always been to us." I told my mom, I know. I remember. I remember when my parents were going through a very bad divorce when I was around 4 or 5 years old. The divorce was all over the media. The Blakemans took us in many times. They fed us, cheered us up and watched over us. Betty Blakeman would make us laugh in her very loud voice. Aunt Betty said it like it was, no matter where the chips would fall. Aunt Betty along with Uncle Bob installed these honest traits into their children. We felt like family in the Blakemans household, and anyone that meets Bruce Blakeman, knows they have a friend that really cares. So I urge all my readers to look at the issues that face New York and the rest of the country. Take a look at the rest of the candidates, and take a look at Bruce Blakeman. The choice will be clear.
