William O. Hiltz, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Lenox Hill Hospital, thanked more than 900 guests at the elegant Waldorf-Astoria’s Grand Ballroom and saluted the Autumn Ball Vice Chairs: Deborah and Allen Grubman; Pat and Ed Gutman; and Drs.Virgie and Marty Ellington, whose leadership helped raise over $2.2 million dollars, an outstanding feat in our “new” economy. Guests included: Lizzie Grubman and Chris Stern, Ellen and Daniel Crown, Dawn Robinson and Dre Allen, Dori Cooperman, Beth Shak, Jennifer Bruder Lavin and Ted Lavin, Bunny and Jay Weinrib, K.T. Sullivan, Howard and Gayle Sobel, Kay and John McEnroe, Sr., Cece Cord, Jean and Ralph Baruch, Dr. Lauren Cassell, Dr. Sherrell Aston and Muffie Potter-Aston, Ann and Thomas E. Dewey, Jr., Marlene Hess and James D. Zirin, Susan and Richard Braddock, Nancy and Robert Downey, Catherine and Richard Foster, and Richard Nye and Francesca Stanfill. All were gathered to salute Dr. Armando Grassi, Chairman Emeritus, Department of Neonatology and Pediatrics in recognition of his 30 years of remarkable service to Lenox Hill Hospital’s most precious patients. Dr. Grassi was bestowed the hospital’s Medal of Distinction for building a world-class center for newborn babies with life-threatening illnesses. Dr. Grassi now joins an impressive list of past Lenox Hill Hospital Medal of Distinction awardees including Robin Roberts, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Beverly Sills, Lena Horne, Neil Simon, Alan Alda, Carol Burnett, Harry Belafonte, Joe Namath, Katie Couric, John McEnroe, Tom Brokaw, Julie Andrews, Bette Midler, and Al Roker and Deborah Roberts. Gladys George, President and CEO of Lenox Hill Hospital spoke about this historic time in our country in regard to the health care reform debate and its profound impact on health care. “One thing will remain constant,” she said. “People will continue to value and seek out high quality health care provided by outstanding physicians in a caring, supportive environment. This certainly sounds like Lenox Hill Hospital to me.” Lenox Hill Hospital, a 652-bed acute care facility located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, was ranked among top 50 hospitals in Heart and Heart Surgery, Digestive Disorders, and Neurology and Neurosurgery by U.S. News and World Report in its 2009 annual "America's Best Hospitals" survey." It is internationally recognized for excellence in cardiovascular care, orthopedic surgery, sports medicine, neurology and neurosurgery, digestive disorders, maternal and child health, bariatric surgery, ophthalmology and otolaryngology.
