MICKY DOLENZ WILL ROCKERS ON BROADWAY

Micky Dolenz

Monkee-Micky Dolenz hits New York this week and next for a special appearance at the Rockers On Broadway event, set for Monday, November 2 at B.B. Kings. The event will be hosted By Cousin Brucie-himself Bruce Morrow (now on Sirius/XM Radio); who was a station mate of Dolenz’s when he hosted his ‘Micky In The Morning Show’ on the original CBS FM. As stalwart fans will recall, six months to the day of his first show (while Dolenz and his band were on stage at B.B. King’s) the then-powers -that -be at the station abruptly switched formats … to the so-called JACK-format … which quickly died a slow death. Photos of Dolenz and Morrow appeared on the cover of the next day’s New York Post. Also appearing will be Rock & Roll Hall of Fame members Gene Cornish and Eddie Brigatti (in only their second stage appearance together since 1970) from The Rascals; Late Night- band leader Paul Shaffer … so hot right now with his terrific memoir We’ll Be Here For The Rest of our Lives; and, Late Show-band-mate bassist, and former Brecker Brother- Will Lee. A certain highlight of the performance will be a special-Rascals set, including Shaffer and Lee, and, David Brigati, long considered the 5th Rascal, who arranged and sang backing vocals on many of their biggest hits. Dolenz, who will also be appearing on WOR Radio’s Joey Reynolds Show and with Scott Shannon on Shannon’s True Oldies station, is also prepping the release plans for his forthcoming Carole King-tribute album King For A Day. Though Dolenz can’t yet divulge the surprises and guest stars on the package, the anticipation is building. Broadway Cares, steered by the venerable Donnie Kehr, now in its 16 season has also just added Tony Winner Jarrod Emick (Damn Yankees) and Jeremy Kushnier (Footloose), and follows up their event last season at The August Wilson Theater with the Reunion Benefit Concert of The Who’s Tommy. Broadway Cares benefits Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, Broadway Dreams Foundation, and the Bendheim Center/Scholarship Fund.
