We are kinda pissed at Stonewall, the gay club in the village, because when we went in there a couple of weeks ago with some celebrities, they refused to serve any of us, because we had a 19yr old with us. Now this bar, that sparked the gay revolution, does not seem to know the New York State liquor laws. We told the bartender it was 18 to party and 21 to drink and he argued with us. He said he knew the laws and we did not. After Stonewall, we went to another New York City Gay landmark, Julius, and they were just as arrogant. Well here is the law from the New York State Liquor Authority.
Minors in Licensed Establishments
According to Section 260.21 of the Penal Law, persons under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to enter an on premises establishment.

ON PREMISES
Bartenders, waitresses, waiters, hostesses and/or any persons who handle and receive payment for alcoholic beverages must be at least 18 years old. Bus persons and dishwashers who handle containers which have held alcoholic beverages must be at least 16 years old and must be directly supervised by someone at least 21 years old.
IF YOU ARE A BARTENDER, KNOW THE LAW !
First of all, the last time we were in Stonewall with my celebrity friends, we spent hundreds of dollars and tipped very well. If it wasn't for our business that night, the club would have been dead. We made the night exciting for all the customers. To have the same bartender deny us because we had a 19yr old with us, is their loss. They lost hundreds in business and we ended up going somewhere else to spend our money. For a club that sparked the gay revolution, this club has become stale and seems to be only getting the tourist trade because of the history of the club. Though they do have one of the best bartenders in New York (Tree), he was not on duty this night and we feel that Stonewall and almost every other gay club in the village, just do not have the excitement anymore. Everyone wanted gay rights, and when we got them, every village club turned into a copy of the straight clubs. What used to be good about the village was that it was different and always on the cutting edge. Now the village is just like going into any straight bar, so why bother. Everyone wanted gay rights, and now you have it. Most of the young kids will never know the fun and excitment of being gay, because it isn't fun anymore. I wish they still hated us !

It's sad that Stonewall is supposed to be a historical symbol for the gay community and is maintained in such disregard. The owners (and there have been many) have done no justice to the legacy.
