GORDIE BROWN BACK AT GOLDEN NUGGET
It was a big night in old Las Vegas the other night. Gordie Brown —"Downtown" Gordie Brown — was back at the legendary Golden Nugget where he had his first show in the city. If you don't think Las Vegas entertainers are one big family, all you had to do was check out the red carpet. None of what the rest of the world considers A-Listers, but here tonight they were all on Las Vegas community A-List. There was Steve Rossi (Allen & Rossi), Joe Esposito (Elvis' road manager), Lorraine Hunt Bono and her husband Dennis Bono (as Lorrie Perry she was a star attraction in local lounges and gave that all up to be Lieutenant Governor of Nevada; her husband is a singer and radio personality), Clint Holmes and Kelly Clinton, Monti Rock and, as is fitting at an impersonator show like Brown's, the best Tina Turner impersonator in the business, Larry Edwards. They were all there to welcome Brown back home and it was the warmest, friendliest red carpet imaginable. All thhe A-List star power one could desire, by the way, was provided by Brown in his show. He began with Bono, did Coldplay, Green Day — all in addition to the people you'd expect. What makes Brown's show different is that he uses the mannerisms, the speech patterns and, where there's a singer, the tunes. But he provides his own words so the routines become his. It is a show well worth seeing.
