On Saturday, November 15th, thousands of Queens parents and their children will join 106.7 FM, Santa Claus, and renowned swing band, The Cherry Poppin’ Daddies -- whose popular late-90’s single, “Zoot Suit Riot” helped the band gain international stardom -- along with many surprise holiday performers and swing dancers in the spectacular, third annual Pawfect Holiday Kickoff event at The Shops at Atlas Park. The “Pawfect Holiday” November 15th event will be a magical evening, starting at 12:30 pm with a special four-hour performance by Yesterday And Today, a Beatles tribute band returning to Atlas Park by popular demand from the Groovin’ on the Green summer concert series. Local families will then be invited to watch as their favorite holiday fixtures march throughout the property in the Pawfect Holiday Parade, during which Santa Claus will make his first appearance of the season as he is escorted in a holiday-bedazzled BMW Mini Cooper. At 6 pm, Santa will take the stage and announce the winner of “Mr. Bemberlinx’s Favorite Song” contest, in which hundreds of children between the ages of four and 12 vied for the chance to choose the beloved 20-foot-tall bear’s favorite dance tune. Both the winner and his or her family will then be invited on stage to flip the switch that will allow Mr. Bemberlinx and the entire center to come to life in a spectacle of twinkling holiday lights. The winner will also be rewarded with a $500 gift certificate for use at any Atlas Park retailer, which will be followed by approximately 10 minutes of eye-dazzling fireworks that fill the nighttime sky. As the fireworks subside, an emcee will announce the winners of Atlas Park’s “Some Swing Special Holiday” dance contest, in which local shoppers who have been fine-tuning their swing dance skills in special dance lessons at Atlas Park over the past month will be given the chance to meet The Cherry Poppin’ Daddies in person before dancing onstage as the band performs Mr. Bemberlinx’s Favorite Song live! The band will then bring the evening to a riveting close with a lively concert. “The Pawfect Holiday is the perfect beginning to our annual holiday season,” said Damon Hemmerdinger, the development director for The Shops at Atlas Park. “We are excited to kick off the festivities once again and look forward to connecting with our local community as we celebrate the return of Santa Claus and our own beloved holiday centerpiece, Mr. Bemberlinx.” Following November 15th, shoppers may also have their photo taken with Santa in the weeks and days leading up to Christmas, while pets will also be treated to their own holiday photos on Saturday, December 13th as part of Atlas Park’s unique Santa Paws event. Meanwhile, on Sunday, December 28th, Atlas Park will also partner with the Queens Jewish Community Council to celebrate the third annual “Pawfect Chanukah” where there will be several store discounts, exciting prizes, latkes and the traditional lighting of the Menorah.
