SINGHS SINGING IN NEW YORK NEXT WEEK
The Singhs
Remember when you heard a record and it just about knocked your socks off? Rarely happens anymore ...right, unless there's a new release from DONNA SUMMER or CHER ... but, last week we spun on a new disc by the Boston-based band THE SINGHS (recommended by 2 of our fave PR-gurus DAVID SALIDOR and RANDY ALEXANDER), headed up by leader MIKI SINGH, and the 12 selections on the disc are about as interesting and supple as anything we've heard in quite some time. The CD's first single "Daddy's All Gone" sounds as first as if it were something from the 90's or late-80's ... but, then you realize that there's nothing at all like it out right and how good it sounds. We also liked "Invisible", "Tina", and "Beautiful Thing." Also in the band is Boston-guitarist Peter Parcek; keyboardist DJ brother Cleve (The Del Fuegos); drummer Steve Scully (James Taylor, Julianna Hatfield); and, bassist Marc Hicox. The group will be hosting a media event next week at the new Rivington Hotel in Manhattan, and in addition to all the press-glad-handling, they'll do a live set. This new set, SUPERSATURATED, is the band's first domestic release, though they've been recognized with some other indie-releases. And, TIMES SQUARE GOSSIP will be there. RANDY JONES, on the even of his book MACHO MAN (written with Mark Bego) coming out; ROBERT FUNARO; and, some special guests. Should be a blast!
