DANIEL RADCLIFFE A HIT ON NYC BROADWAY

Former Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe wowed New York City theatre goers on Friday night as he made his Broadway debut in EQUUS. The Hollywood actor plays distressed teen Alan Strang in the controversial Peter Shaffer play, about a boy who has a pathological sexual fascination with horses. Radcliffe’s performance also includes one brief nude scene and that has proved to be as big a hit with his American fans as it was with his British ones when Equus opened in London’s West End last year. College Student Mandy Menaker, who caught the preview at the Broadhurst Theater on Friday, tells People.com, "I thought that he was terrific. He had a lot to offer. So I thought it was great." Another devotee, Danielle Manente, says, "He was really good. He captured the character (and) he was so into it. He never broke character. I believed everything he said." And Radcliffe’s naked form also won praise from fans, although Menaker admits she was too caught up by the storyline to take too much notice. She adds, "By that point he was so in the character that you don’t think of it as Harry Potter naked. He’s naked as a character emotionally, so you’re not at all thinking that he’s physically naked. You’re so involved in the scene by that point that you don’t even notice." After the show, Radcliffe signed autographs for the crowds of fans who had gathered by the theatre’s stage door. The play will open on September 25th and run on the great white way until February 8th.
