WHO CANCELS: ROGER DALTREY ILL

Roger Daltrey

The Who will make it right with their fans in Tampa, Fla., after the band abruptly canceled a concert there because of illness. The British rock band halted its concert Tuesday night before lead singer Roger Daltrey sang a word of the first song, "I Can't Explain." Apparently he couldn't -- sing, that is -- because he was sick, the Tampa Bay Tribune said. "Roger has bronchitis," guitarist Peter Townshend told the crowd of about 9,000 at the Ford Amphitheater. "I've been with Roger and he can barely speak. We're going to have to cancel." Their fans were forgiving and even applauded the March 25 makeup date. "I'd rather see 100 percent of The Who than 50 percent," Alex Hutchins told the newspaper. Leslie Stallings was in the same mood, telling the Tribune, "We're disappointed, but we understand." Tickets for the canceled show will be honored for the March 25 date or refunds can be obtained at the place of purchase, a representative of the Ford Amphitheater said.

I was at this show and when they came on and started playing he didnt sounds that bad and when he walked out we all thought it was a joke. And even when pete was speaking we thought it was still thought it was a joke until the lights came on in the venue. And then everyone went crazy!!! We thought there was going to be a riot like the one the who has had in the past!!
