Smith's Bar And Restaurant

For nearly 60 years, the landmark neon sign outside Smith’s Bar & Restaurant in New York City’s storied Theatre District has been synonymous with live music, entertainment and hospitality. Drawn by its lively crowd, indulgent fare, liberal happy hour drink specials and its proximity to iconic Times Square and Broadway theatres, New Yorkers and tourists alike have returned to this time-honored establishment year after year. Whether you’re looking for an after work drink or a pre-theater bite, hoping to catch a game, see a live band or sing a tune over the bar’s karaoke system, there’s always a reason to stop into to Smith’s.

Established in 1954, Smith’s has carved out a place in rock music’s history, playing host to legendary musicians and local bands alike. With historic recording studio The Hit Factory just a short walk away, hungry rockers including John Lennon often stopped by for a burger or beer after a late night recording session. Today, Smith’s upholds its reputation as New York City’s favorite place for live music, featuring an eclectic mix of seasoned rock and acoustic performers four nights a week.

A friendly neighborhood bar, Smith’s invites guests inside to enjoy its warm, welcoming atmosphere. The large windows looking out onto bustling 8th avenue offer a show of their own, providing a great opportunity to people watch. The locale lends itself to being the perfect place for Broadway theatregoers to dine for a pre or post-show meal. In addition, sports enthusiasts can enjoy Smith’s panorama of 14 large screen HD-ready televisions displaying every major sporting event. The friendly staff at Smith’s is happy to accommodate channel requests, so there’s no fear of missing a second of the sporting action. A dart board is placed in the rear of the restaurant, which makes for a perfect distraction during a half-time lull.

Be sure to arrive at Smith’s with an appetite. Smith’s menu offers an array of delicious bar fare served in generous portions. House favorites include the Jack Daniels Burger, a half-pound burger marinated in Jack Daniels, grilled to perfection and topped with sautéed onions, cheddar cheese and house BBQ sauce; Nacho Supreme, a stack of crisp corn tortilla chips smothered in homemade chili and melted cheese, topped with sliced jalapenos and served with Pico de Gallo, sour cream and guacamole; Just Fries, crispy golden French fries with or without Cajun style seasoning, served with 3 dipping sauces; and the Hell’s Kitchen Corned Beef, a traditional neighborhood sandwich piled high-thinly sliced corned beef and served on toasted bread.

With Karaoke every Tuesday, live music Wednesday through Saturday, a panorama of televisions, a surprisingly diverse list of craft beers and Happy Hour from noon to 7 p.m. Sunday through Friday, Smith's manages to have a little something for every customer coming through the door.

Smith’s Bar & Restaurant is open seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 a.m.
