Dr. Karyn Gordon, a leading relationship and parenting expert in Canada is bringing her expertise to New York City. A best-selling author, media personality, motivational speaker and founder of dk Leadership, Dr. Karyn’s mission is to inspire people to dream their best life, learn the tools and do it! She is passionate about teaching EQ Leadership Skills (Motivation, Time Management, Organization, Decision-Making, Confidence, Communication and Career Direction) to develop thriving relations at home, at work and with ourselves.
As an expert in her native Toronto, Dr. Karyn now brings her relationship and parenting values to a new set of clientele. “The kind of work I do with my clients is different from that of a therapist,” says Dr, Karyn. “I don’t just listen to my clients, but give them healthy and structural guidance to build their confidence and promote a healthy future.”
As New Yorkers with busy work, family and life schedules, Dr. Karyn sees a trend, especially in children, in anxiety. By not having a set routine and different engagements happening at a moments notice, it can be especially stressful for children. “A problem I see, especially in competitive settings, that children are very anxious,” says Dr. Karyn, “by teaching children leadership skills, it will build their confidence and self-esteem and allow them to be better students, brothers and sisters and sons and daughters.” Dr. Karyn not only recommends building confidence in children but suggests that parents stick to a routine as much as possible. “Try to designate at least one night a week as family night. Create a tradition – it can be as simple as ordering pizza on Tuesdays or family movie night on Sundays. This will allow children to gravitate towards a routine and have something to look forward to.”
Not only are healthy home relationships the core of Dr. Karyn’s expertise, but in the workplace as well, especially between inter-generational. “It is important that Gen X’s and Gen Y’s not only work together harmoniously, but are able to give and receive feedback while still mentoring. By leading and learning effectively, a more productive workplace is ultimately achieved,” says Dr. Karyn.
For 17 years, Dr. Karyn has built a thriving coaching practice for families in Toronto. In 2012, she expanded her work to New York City to service families and organizations in the five boroughs. In Spring 2013, Dr. Karyn will launch the wildly creative dk Leadership, which includes The Leadership Studio, offering inspirational, all-day events for teens and adults and The Coaching Studio, offering coaching for clients. Dr. Karyn is also a best-selling author of Dr. Karyn’s Guide to the Teen Years, published by Harper Collins, and has written three additional resources for parents, teachers and counselors.
Dr. Karyn has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, a Masters in Counseling and a Doctorate in Marriage and Family. In addition, she has conducted extensive studies in organizational systems, personality, emotional intelligence, generational differences and leadership in workplace. It is Dr. Karyn’s passion to understand what makes people tick and to help them reach their greatest potential.
