Melanie Griffith

A Press rep for Hollywood star Melanie Griffith says the award winning actress had surgery to remove early stages of skin cancer from her face, according to media reports. The procedure, which left the 52-year-old actress with a black eye, was done early enough to prevent further complications, the rep said.Griffith was married to actor Don Johnson and is currently married to Antonio Banderas. We wish the actress the very best.

Melanie Griffith

Hollywood actress Melanie Griffith has checked into rehab after fearing she was too "weak" to resist her urge for drugs, her hubby Antonio Banderas is revealing. The 52-year-old sexy star, is getting treatment at the Cirque Lodge in Utah since the end of August. Press representatives for the actress had previously refused to disclose the reason for her stay but her husband Banderas is now speaking out, and is admitting she turned to professionals in a bid to prevent a relapse into the narcotic addiction she suffered from for years. Griffith battled alcohol and drugs in the 70s and 80s, and spent time in rehab in 1998 and again in 2000 in an effort to kick an addiction to prescription painkillers. The star has also used the opportunity to dismiss reports his marriage is collapsing under the strain of Griffith's troubles. He tells Ellen DeGeneres, "Let me explain to you. It was actually in some magazine that I said that I gave an ultimatum to my wife. That I present the matter of divorce (sic) because she has been involved in addictions and blah, blah, blah. ... "Melanie has been addicted for many years and we always came out. We said it out loud. It was OK, we were never embarrassed of the situation but ... she was clean and sober for six years." Banderas adds, "In March, she came to me and said, 'I'm feeling a little bit weak in my determination for this (to stay sober) ... so I just thought to go to rehabilitation by myself.'" Griffith has her whole family behind her in her battle to stay clean -- and her relatives even attend group therapy sessions with the embattled star. Banderas says, "We have been following some type of therapy with other families. There are a number of invisible heroes working in AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) all around the world. I just say to families, 'Don't get embarrassed, just confront this problem head-on. And don't hide from that because there is a beautiful gift at the end of this tunnel, and it is the person that you love back, and that is what I am searching for. "So the whole entire family is supporting her, and I am supporting her, and at this particular time more than ever. I'm very proud of her."

Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas

Antonio Banderas insists he will never leave his wife Melanie Griffith. The 'Shrek the Third' star, who exchanged vows with Melanie in 1996, has laughed off rumors his marriage is in trouble. Antonio told Closer magazine: "When we met each other we just fell in love and went for it. We both came from failing relationships and I think we both learnt from that."I know that people didn't give a penny for our relationship at the start and newspapers bet that we wouldn't last three months. I should have taken those bets."We've kept going and I have absolutely no intention of breaking off our relationship. I feel absolutely comfortable with my wife."These days I am happy to stay at home. We love each other. It's as simple as that."

Melanie Griffith

THEY RAZZLED, DAZZLED and JAZZED $1.2 million for SAFE HORIZON at the Amsterdam Theatre where a 10th anniversary reunion brought out the stars -- and brought in the money. The show opened with a killer number led by veteran Broadway baby, Chita Rivera who --literally -- knocked 'em dead all over again. A galaxy of Roxie Harts (including Melanie Griffith -- husband Antonio Banderas arrived at the dress rehearsal with Jane Kazmaryk -- Rita Wilson, Brooke Shields, Marilu Henner, even Ashlee Simpson (from the London company) and the amazingly underrated (until now) Ruthie Henschell took us where "the gin is cold, but the piano's hot": Chicago! In a musical jail, they joined the Velma Kelly's (included Bebe Neuwirth who pronounced the music, the book, the choreography and the characters "perfect") Cityslick-solicitors in the form of lawyer Billy Flynn -- from Ben Vereento James Naughton, a sleepy-eyed Huey Lewis (without 'The News'),Wayne Brady, gorgeous Brett Barrett, John O'Hurlihey, Kevin Richardson (everybody but Usher whose sore-throat days off cost the show $400,000-a-week during his run)-- mobbed the 'jail' where their clients developed their talents under the guidence of jailhouse matron Mamas' played in turn and in harmony by Lynda Carter, Marcia Lewis Bryan, Roz Ryan, Carole Woods and more. The only 'Mr. Cellophane'(Roxy's husband Amos -- referred to as 'Andy' by Chicago's lawyers)who scored a standing ovartion was Joel Grey. Director Walter Bobie and producers Barry and Fran Wexler applauded Anne Reinking who choreographed the original show and thanked the patrons who shelled out as much as $5,000 for each ticket for the privilege of standing for ovations and joining the enormous cast for the after-party, around the corner at New World Stages. For the hundreds who attended, sunrise came too soon.
