MICKEY MOUSE STAR ANNETTE FUNICELLO DEAD

Image
**** THE GLORIOUS CORNER By: G. H. HARDING **** Jesse Metcalfe DALLAS RE-DEUX --- As a devout viewer of the original CBS Dallas (1978-1991), I was a bit dubious when TNT announced plans to re-launch the series last. I say only a bit, as with that tacit announcement came the fact that three of the original stars, Larry Hagman, Patrick Duffy and Linda Grey, were returning as well. In the intervening years, whenever someone mentioned the original show, I must confess I felt a little less than honorable in even championing it. Let’s face it, it was a prime-time soap opera, but, that said, the writing was surprisingly good and the ebbs-and-flows of its characters rather miraculous; but, Hagman, Duffy and Gray brought a professional sheen to the new show and all have risen fittingly to the occasion in this new version.  Hagman, who I loved in many early-black-and-white shows, as well as I Dream of Jeannie (with Barbara Eden), was truly sensational. There are ...

**** LOSS OF A TELEVISION LEGEND **** Patrick Duffy With Linda Gray And Larry Hagman I Dream Of Jeannie and Dallas star Larry Hagman, has died at 81.  The actor played the famed role of oil baron J.R. Ewing on Dallas and Tony Nelson on I Dream of Jeannie. The actor, who returned this year as J.R. in a new edition of the hit show "Dallas"  had a very long history of health problems and died Friday due to complications from his battle with cancer, his family said. "Larry was back in his beloved hometown of Dallas, re-enacting the iconic role he loved the most. Larry's family and closest friends had joined him in Dallas for the Thanksgiving holiday," the family said in a statement by Warner Bros., the producer of the show. The 81-year-old actor was surrounded by friends and family before he passed peacefully, "just as he'd wished for," the statement said. Linda Gray, his on-screen wife and later ex-...

The Original Dallas Cast Iconic show “Dallas” is back in full force this summer, and so are its original stars! AARP The Magazine recently sat down with June/July cover stars Patrick Duffy, Larry Hagman, and Linda Gray, to discuss the old days as J.R., Bobby, and Sue Ellen, the new show, and what it’s like to return to the famed Ewing ranch! Also, see below for a link to some exclusive behind the scenes shoot shenanigans! On the new reboot:  “The fun is just beginning." "Let's be honest," says Duffy. "The only reason Dallas is being done now is because they can get J. R. back on the air. That character is as iconic as the ranch itself." On why “Dallas” works even today: "My theory," says Hagman, "is that everybody has a jerk like J.R. in the family, and they can identify with that."  On the original “Dallas” cast:  “"The turd doesn't fall far from the horse! The hardest par...

HAGMAN AND GREY MAY RETURN TO DALLAS

Image
Linda Grey "Dallas" stars Larry Hagman and Linda Grey have confirmed they've been approached to reprise their famous Sue Ellen and J.R. Ewing roles for a remake of the prime time Soap Opera. Television executives at Warner Bros. are reportedly considering bringing back "Dallas" and focusing the new show on the TV couple's son John Ross and his cousin, Christopher. Gray is admitting she's yet to see any script, but isn't comfortable about playing a supporting grandmother role yet. She tells TV Guide magazine, "I'm not going to wear little boring dresses with pearls around my neck. At this age, Sue Ellen should be a powerhouse role model." Hagman tells the magazine he's interested in reviving his TV oil boss role, but adds, "How much we talkin'?" Photos By: Sare De Boer/RD/Dziekan/Retna

AWARD WINNING SIDNEY SHELDON DIES

Image
Sidney Sheldon who won awards in three careers — Broadway theater, movies, television — then at age 50 turned to writing best-selling novels about stalwart women who triumph in a hostile world of ruthless men, has died. He was 89. Sheldon died yesterday of complications from pneumonia at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, said Warren Cowan, his publicist of more than 25 years. His wife Alexandra and his daughter, author Mary Sheldon, were by his side.''I've lost a longtime and dear friend,'' Cowan said. ''In all my years in this business, I've never heard an unkind word said about him.''Sheldon's books, with titles such as ''Rage of Angels,'' ''The Other Side of Midnight,'' ''Master of the Game'' and ''If Tomorrow Comes,'' provided his greatest fame. They were cleverly plotted with a high degree of suspense and sensuality and a device to keep the reader turning pages....
