Roy Choi With Katy Perry LAS VEGAS  – The biggest names in entertainment feasted at Best Friend, Roy Choi’s first Las Vegas restaurant, on Friday, Dec. 28 during Park MGM’s official grand opening. Choi prepared his signature flavors for guests, which included pop superstar Katy Perry, DJ singer-songwriter Samantha Ronson, rapper and actor YG, actress Regina King, Academy Award-winner Marisa Tomei, and actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson, dining at Best Friend before-and-after the Lady Gaga Enigma show debut at Park Theater. We loved it and can best describe it as an existential treastie on one’s own work; initially very successful, but, now needing a good kick in the butt. Michael Keaton plays Riggan Thomson, who enjoyed years of success, essaying a comic-book character Birdman; he did three (like he did in Batman) and passed on a fourth installment. Now, trying a stage adaption of a Raymond Carver play (!), he’s going through the motions with the play; a daughter he never really got to know; an ex-wife that he still has feelings for; and, a girlfriend in the play, who may or may not be pregnant. We've watched it and thoroughly enjoyed it. Santana, and his band, are just exceptional; with a power and energy that was a most welcome surprise (they definitely came ready to play). McLaughlin, who I've enjoyed for years, is just terrific. Ironically, the performance that I enjoyed the most was John Coltrane’s “A Love Supreme.” So joyous.  Their 1973 album, Love, Devotion, Surrender, was an amazing work that endures today.
