Rock ‘n’ roll icon Bo Diddley has died from heart failure at age 79.The singer passed away on today at his home in Archer, Florida after a long battle with his health, his spokeswoman Susan Clary confirmed.The rock star, born Ellas Bates, suffered a heart attack last August, just three months after being struck down by a stroke during his tour in Iowa.The stroke affected his speech and he suffered from poor health until his death. Diddley began his rise to fame in the 1950s after being discovered by Checker Records. Ailing rock 'n' roll pioneer an music legend Bo Diddley suffered a heart attack while undergoing a medical check-up, and is in stable condition in a Florida hospital, his spokeswoman said on Tuesday.The 78-year-old musician, whose distinctive rhythms and guitar style influenced rockers from Buddy Holly to the Rolling Stones and U2, felt unwell during a check-up last Friday at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville, Fla. He was transferred to the emergency room where he suffered the heart attack, spokeswoman Susan Clary said in a statement.He underwent surgery so that a stent could be fitted to help blood flow to his heart. Veteran musician BO DIDDLEY is in intensive care after suffering a stroke.The singer songwriter/guitarist, who has a history of hypertension and diabetes, is in guarded condition at Creighton University Medical Centre in Omaha, Nebraska, according to his publicist Susan Clary.She added the 78-year-old star was admitted to hospital after a concert in Council Bluffs, west Iowa, on Sunday night because he was acting "disorientated".Tests have indicated the stroke has affected the left side of the musician’s brain, impairing his speech, however Clary said there were no other details available on Diddley’s health or when he will be released from intensive care.
