I love the fall because everything slows down, the fast pace of the island turns into a relaxing slow pace vacation. Walks to other towns on Fire Island are breathless, and nature takes over.
I was talking to other business owners on the island today. They were all telling me that everyone wants the sun and that they dread a rainstorm forecast, that's when all the cancellations start to flow in with everyone's excuse always the same just about. They kill off relatives, someone had a heart attack, anything to get out of their reservations at all the hotels. This I do not understand.
Fire Island has it's own weather patterns. No matter what the forecast is in New York City, the weather is different on the island. It could be raining in the city and sunny on the island. And besides, a good storm on the island is magical. Nothing beats sitting in your room at Dune Point, looking out the window and watching the thunder and lightning, while you cook a great dinner.
