Barack Obama After Sandy Hook Shooting

I like everyone else in this country are in shock. The murder in Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, is a horror.

President Obama had this to say as he became very emotional as he delivered remarks on the Newtown elementary school shooting.

"I offered Governor Malloy my condolences on behalf of the nation, and made it clear he will have every resource he needs to investigate," Obama said, noting the country has had "too many of these tragedies in the last few years."

"Each time I learn the news I react not as a president, but as anyone else would -- as a parent. And that was especially true today," Obama said. "I know there's not a parent in America who doesn't feel the same overwhelming grief that I do."

"They had their entire lives ahead of them -- birthdays, graduations, weddings, kids of their own," Obama said of the children who were killed, tearing up. "Among the fallen were also teachers, men and women who devoted their lives to helping children fulfill their dreams."

Police reported 27 deaths, including 20 children, six adults and the shooter, according to the Associated Press. 

Following hours of uncertainty during which many media outlets reported the shooter's identity as Ryan Lanza, an official identified the suspected gunman as Adam Lanza, Ryan's 20 year old brother, according to the Associated Press. Ryan Lanza, 24, is now being questioned by the police in New Jersey.

On a personal note, I have lived in New York City for many years now. I lived here when the crime rate was very high. Never in my life did I ever think I should get a gun. I have walked through the worst neighborhoods at night, and still I never even considered the idea. 

The NRA for too long has controlled the politicians.  I don't want to hear the arguments that guns do not kill, that people do. If guns were illegal and some nut case walked into a school with a knife, he could not do the damage that guns do. It is time to put a stop to this. Guns do kill and more people are being killed like this in mass murders. It's not going to change until we have a Constitution Amendment banning guns. Sandy Hook Elementary School will not be the last mass murder, until the laws are changed to protect the innocent. How would members of the NRA feel if these were their children?  It's time to stop the insanity!
