JBFCS Board President, Tony Mann

An honor that recognizes Tony Mann’s twenty years of exceptional service, the Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services (JBFCS) has recently named Mann Board President. “Giving of oneself is more than a responsibility; it is a privilege,” says Mann. “Getting involved in something larger than myself, such as JBFCS, has taught me the importance of our accomplishments—both big and small. It is our collective impact in the city that counts and we do this by taking small steps. This has inspired me to work even harder.” In addition to his many years of service on the JBFCS Board of Trustees, Mann also served as chairman of Kaplan House, an urban residential facility for twenty-five adolescent males that provides an extensive independent-living skills program and therapeutic and support services. Last year, he launched the JBFCS Hudson Valley Ride, an annual bike ride fundraiser for JBFCS programs and services. The 2009 ride exceeded its first year goal of $250,000 to attain over $425,000. This year’s ride is July 18th with a $500,000 goal. (For more information, please visit “My vision for the future of JBFCS hinges on our practicing the highest levels of integrity and professionalism in serving families and communities,” said Tony Mann. “As we adapt to these uncertain times, we must remain optimistic as well as vigilant in serving the needs of a diverse population…and having a Board that reflects that diversity.” A resident of Greenwich, CT, Mann is President of E-J Electric Installation Co., a 110-year-old electrical contracting firm in Long Island City, NY. E-J’s projects range from stadiums, water treatment and power plants to office buildings, transit facilities, schools and theatres. Notable projects under Tony Mann’s leadership include: Yankee Stadium, New York Times Headquarters, Bank of America – Mission Critical, 11 Times Square, Astoria Power & Poletti 500 MW Power Plants, WTC Path Station, Planetarium at the Museum of Natural History, JetBlue JFK Terminal, USTA National Tennis Center, Madame Tussaud’s, Jazz @ Lincoln Center, United Nations, and the Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Research Center.

Superstar Shakira has had regular therapy sessions for the past nine years in a hope to win her life-long battle with being insecure. Shakira first went for help back in 2001 because she was unhappy with her looks. And she is insisting it has changed her life. Shakira told UK's Fabulous magazine, "It helped me so much with every aspect of my life, from body image to relationships. "My therapist told me why I behaved in certain ways and not to feel so pressured. It's incredibly liberating to spend an hour talking to someone and not caring about what you sound like. It's about understanding myself. Sometimes I'll speak to my therapist for an hour a day. It's become part of my routine."

Michael Lohan

Publicity hungry Lindsay Lohan's father is going to fly to Los Angeles California in a hope to persuade his troubled daughter to check into rehab, because he's terrified she will die without professional help. Licking Lindsay has earned herself a reputation as a Hollywood party girl in over the years thanks to so many wild nights out, arrests for drug possession and driving violations and a stint in rehab. Lindsay hit the gossip columns again earlier this month when she was snapped falling into a cactus bed after a night out in Los Angeles. She was also photographed with a mystery white dust on her designer shoes last week. Michael Lohan, who has publicly spoken about his daughter's alleged prescription drug addiction in the past, is admitting he's seriously worried for his daughters health, and he's appealing for her to seek professional help before it's too late. During a press conference yesterday, he said, "Lindsay's not OK. I think we've seen that, we all know that. It's really hard for me to do this. A lot of my family members know what's going on. "I've tried every way possible to reach out to my daughter, talking, text, we've met. And, in difficult times, she reaches out to me. It happened last week when she fell into the cactus. She said, 'I need security.' I'm her father and I love her. "I think we all see and know what's happening with Lindsay. I get calls from her closest friends and it's worse than you can imagine. My daughter needs to let me help her. I don't want her to be a statistic. My heart goes out to people who have lost their children." Michael Lohan wants to meet with his daughter's legal team because he wants to help Lindsay of disruptive influences in her life. He adds, "Lindsay needs help now and I'm asking everyone out there to help her and if you're an enabler (to Lindsay) get out of there. I want to meet with Lindsay's lawyers and sit down with her privately to work something out, discuss the situation. "If she refuses to do so I guess we will take measures. I hope Lindsay is accommodating. We all know the truth. God knows the truth. I love her and I want her to be healthy. Her life will not be taken from me."

Editors Note: I never saw a more press hungry person in my life. As much as I do not like Lindsay, because of a night out at the topless club Scores, where Lindsay and Kate Moss were so nasty to me, I really think her father has just gone too far. When Michael Lohan was in jail, he called me several times wanting me to get in touch with Lindsay. He even had his mother send me a letter to give to her, which we still have. We never got involved, because we could see what he was. A publicity hungry we-don't-know-what.... It's one thing when your daughter makes headlines by herself, but it's another thing for her father to makes things worse by throwing these press conferences, that bring even more attention to her. One night I was hanging out with Lindsay's mom Dina. I told her the things I knew Michael was doing and she said he's always up to something. Dina is a great mom, I adore her. How she has put up with Michael all these years, is beyond me. It is clear that Lindsay has not wanted anything to do with Michael for many years now. Why can't he just leave her alone. Everyone knows Lindsay has made huge mistakes, but she has to learn all by herself. When I was younger, I did just as many stupid things as Lindsay has. As I grew older, I learned. Lindsay has to do the same. I think it's time for Dina Lohan and Lindsay to sit down and talk about what to do about Michael. This guy is press hungry. He will not stop. He has hurt Lindsay's career, or whatevers left, more than she has done herself. Leave Lindsay alone Michael. Get a life of your own!

The guy or girl that writes this column is a very big industry insider who wishes to remain anonymous, but wants to write about all the headlines happening in Hollywood and the Music Industry.

Dick Clark

CLAY COLE RISES --- This last six months has produced an almost staggering array of music-related books; Mark Spitz’s terrific David Bowie book, which despite some naysayers, I found totally captivating; detailed, and, very factual. It made this reader realize all over again what a truly singular talent Bowie was … and, is. Phil Sutcliffe’s terrific opus, “Queen: The Ultimate Illustrated History of the Crown Kings of Rock”; “Elton” by celebrity-biographer Mark Bego; Jon Bream’s “Neil Diamond Is Forever: The Illustrated Story of the Man and His Music”; and, Paul Shaffer and David Ritz’s “We'll Be Here for the Rest of Our Lives.” Our pal Tom Cuddy gave us a new one to read: “Sh-Boom – The Explosion of Rock ‘N Roll 1953-1968”(Morgan/James Publications) by TV’s Clay Cole. This is, without a doubt, the best book I've ever read on the early beginning of rock ‘n roll. Cole, for those who may not remember, exploded onto the black-and-white TV screen in those days; producing, writing, hosting … at times, on three different shows. Clay Cole was one of those teenagers, so the connection between him and his audiences was true and immediate. He was quite the prodigy too … writing and performing those first shows at his childhood home. He was the first to introduce Chubby Checker perfuming the “Twist;” the first to present the Rolling Stones, Tony Orlando, Dionne Warwick, Neil Diamond, Bobby Vinton, the Rascals, Ronettes, Four Seasons, and, Dion. He also debuted music video clips, go-go girls, and young standup comedians like Richard Pryor and George Carlin. After an unprecedented 15 years of fame, Cole walked away from his popular Saturday-night show at 30 years old and has essentially remained out of the spotlight for 40 years; Clay has been called the “missing link to the Sixties.” With this book, he’s back. There were so many things I liked about this book; it’s a bit difficult where to begin: His writing style is snappy, funny, direct. Many of the events and locations that he references here are gone forever, but, I do remember them. The references to the clubs of the days, the restaurants, the names, the memories … I loved and remember them all. The true stories, many of which I know firsthand to be true, are sad, revealing, and compelling. When he was at WPIX presenting some of the best new R&B performers on the scene, he was called on the carpet of the then CEO, and asked to cut back on the black talent; certainly in a more direct and unflattering way than I choose to say here. A year later, the station was awarded for its continuing efforts towards diversity. They took the award and didn't even acknowledge Cole. Johnny Carson, Dick Clark, Zsa Zsa Gabor; Vanilla Fudge; Tiny Tim; Tom Dowd; Tom Jones; Dick Clark; Sarah Dash; Ringo Starr; Dick Clark; Mary Wilson; Diana Ross; the Rat Pack; Mike Douglas; Mia Farrow; Lou Christie … they're all here. A devastatingly brilliant book … written with our friend David Hinckley from the Daily News. This book isn't for everyone, but if you truly love music and want to know an integral part of how it all happened … this is for you.

Roger Friedman

ROGER FRIEDMAN --- Last week, Roger Friedman and his blog (Showbiz 411) in the Hollywood Reporter parted ways. Their editor Elizabeth Guider said they wanted to go in another direction. Insiders reported that Friedman had done the blog for almost a year, and then last week broke the rather huge ‘Rosie O’Donnell comes back to TV story’ … then gets canned. Guider had said when she first hired Friedman, “HR wanted to beef up its celebrity coverage.” And, they managed to do that in a very public way with the Rosie-story … then let’s Friedman go. HR was just sold and more than anything, I hear it’s a budget-oriented move; and, regrettably these days … that’s nothing new. Now, Roger is not everyone’s cup of tea, but I find him continually fascinating and marvel at the Intel he gets all the time. Believe me, Roger is tied in … from Weinstein to Sting to U2. He'll be back better than ever for sure. We love you Roger. Hold tight!

Keifer Sutherland

24 --- By now you've heard and read that Keifer Sutherland’s terrific “24” will end its 8-year run this May. While the news is not all that surprising, I think we have to say yet again that the show this year is as good as ever and will certainly be going out on top. When the show first debuted, its split-screens and editing startled everyone. Now, every show does it and the luster has worn thin. But, let’s give a proper testament to what the show has done and for Sutherland’s terrific acting and performances. Even when the going got tough, he was there delivering 100%. Even when the plot lines blurred together, Keifer was all there. They're saying a movie is in the works and I do hope it happens. A terrific adventure, we were all lucky to have witnessed it. LARRY STEVENS --- Our Park Ridge, New Jersey singer/songwriter Larry Stevens is opening for Todd Rundgren this Friday at BergenPac in Engelwood. Now, this writer is a HUGE fan of the Runt’s. His epic music from the 80s, 90s, and now, is just in a class by itself. Last year he joined the reunion of The Cars and seamlessly melded their hits with his. His two-album set “Something/Anything” is in a category all by itself. Stevens, who’s most recent CD is the terrific “Downstair’s At Mayo’s,” is prepping for a label showcase next month with his manager David Salidor. According to the pair, Peter Abraham from The Cutting Room will be involved in the production. We're going to be there Friday so we'll have an on-the-spot report next week.

Dick Van Dyke

ROSENFELD PASSES – Michael Rosenfeld, Sr., a founding partner at Creative Artists Agency and who started its literary department, died last week of respiratory failure. He was 75. After working at William Morris throughout the 60s, Rosenfeld con-founded CAA in 1975 along with Bill Haber, Ron Meyer, Michael Ovitz, and Rowland Perkins. Among the deals he helped package, were, roles for Rita Moreno and George Chakiris in “West Side Story”; Dick Van Dyke in “Mary Poppins”; and, selling mini-series “Rich Man, Poor Man” (1976) to ABC in 1976. He also repped Marlo Thomas, Joanne Woodward, Ann-Margret, Eva Marie Saint, and Dyan Cannon, as well as the writers for “Columbo,” “Mannix,” and, “Murder, She Wrote.” His son, Michael Jr., worked at Warner Brothers Records and with Madonna and then, Dreamworks Records. Michael Sr. was, one of the good guys. He will be missed.

Deborah Norville

NORVILLE SOLDIERS ON --- Michael Starr in today’s New York Post reminds that Deborah Norville is celebrating 15 years as the host of TV’s “Inside Edition.” He says, “No mean feat where news magazine anchors are set adrift with alarming regularity.” So true. The show continues to generate strong numbers. I well remember her at the helm of the “Today Show” in the late-80s and she was simply terrific. The Dalton, Georgia born anchor also appeared on several CBS News shows before beginning “Edition” in 1995. She’s also done radio as well, replacing Sally Jesse Raphael, on ABC Radio. Season-to-date, “Edition” is ranked sixth among all syndicated programming; just behind “Entertainment Tonight” and ahead of “Dr. Phil.” It’s also up 7 percent over last year and has gained an additional 328,000 viewers over last season. A class act for sure, congratulations.... AIR TRAVELS --- Last week at this time, I was prepping for a short weekend to Barcelona. My JFK/Delta flight turned around after an hour to repair a generator that had gone bad. Watching fuel being burned off from my window seat was rather upsetting. Coming back, my flight from Amsterdam was delayed four hours; face it, air travel just ain’t the same anymore. Plus, rudeness seems to be the fashion of the day. In between I found Barcelona totally captivating. The Gaudi church, tapas, the people, fashion, and the museums with work from Miro and Picasso, simply outstanding. It was great, too short, and little too much drama. Am glad to be back in the hood.

Guest Studying Artwork At The Launch

David Zelikovsky

Dilia Helen With Artist Zach Hyman

With the chic, downtown space, Collective Hardware as the backdrop, members of New York City’s art community mingled for a night of art and music at the launch of Fund Art Now (F.A.N.), A Call to Revolution. Founder of F.A.N. David Zelikovsky kicked-off a ten-day celebration of art, embarking on a mission to instill a new Renaissance within the Arts community and change global consciousness. Also in attendance for the launch was owner of the Chair and the Maiden Gallery, John Dabu. The ten-day festivities include Ulysses’ latest “animated art” endeavor, provocative work by Anton S. Kandinsky, Zach Hyman and Brian Reed, along with musical performances. At the soirĂ©e, F.A.N. began its fundraising efforts. The evening’s sponsors included: Ace of Spades, Steinway & Sons, The Global Syndicate, Diamond Club International, TR Luxury, Next Generation Beverage LLC, Barbados Tourist Authority, The Crane Resort, Armand de Brignac Champagne, New York Historical Society, Heart-4-Haiti, One Heart For Haiti and Luxe Event. For additional information, please visit To volunteer or donate, please visit

F.A.N. draws upon all types of Artists and Artisans across the globe to create projects – such as the building of its foundation, brick-by-brick, through a joint effort – drawing international interest toward a focused goal. F.A.N.’s purpose is to create a public congregation in which common goals and interests can be developed in a performance and gallery space where improvisation and collaboration are encouraged— a space where All are welcome; the ultimate goal is to fulfill Vincent Van Gogh's elusive lifelong desire for community among artists, a collaboration of dreams. Art projects selected for sponsorship are chosen based upon their appeal to the base of human nature, where religion and politics are given secondary status, and their perceived effective nature on a global stage with accessibility to the international public— making a simple statement simply. Breaking down barriers that education and socio-economic factors have established over the centuries, accessibility to the masses is of utmost importance to F.A.N.'s mission.

Rihanna's ex. Chris Brown, is allegedly struggling to find a venue for his upcoming 21st birthday bash. Beyonce Knowles

A spokesperson for Beyonce's record label is denying gossip reports that she is pregnant with her first child. Gossip website first broke the rumor on Thursday, igniting a huge amount of gossip reports online. The news was fueled by the "Irreplaceable" singer's publicist, Alan Nierob, who issued a firm "no comment" on the story, adding, "We don't respond to private-matter enquiries." A spokesperson for her husband Jay-Z also refused to answer press questions, but now a Sony Music representative has reached out to to insist the reports are "untrue."

David Schwimmer

Former friends star David Schwimmer is allegedly pissed off with his former "Friends" co-star Jennifer Aniston after she insisted on television that she doesn't know who his fiancee is. Schwimmer announced his engagement to his girlfriend of nearly two years Zoe Buckman this month. Schwimmer was allegedly left humiliated when Aniston appeared on David Letterman's show and told him she had "no idea" who her longtime friend was marrying. Now Schwimmer is reportedly refusing to speak to Aniston over the comment, according to Britain's Mail on Sunday. A source told the publication, "David was not impressed that one of his supposed friends didn't know who he was marrying. He has been with Zoe for a couple of years and was offended Jen couldn't remember her. He hasn't been taking her calls."

Ricky Martin

Ricky Martin has been plagued by gay for years, but he has never 'come out' as a gay man, until now. He attempted to brush off speculation about his sexuality in a candid interview almost a decade ago, stating: " The star has been in the closet for years, but in 2008 when he adopted twin baby boys, Matteo and Valentino, who born to a surrogate mother, the gossip mill started flying again. .And now Ricky has finally revealed all to fans in a post on his official website, confirming he is attracted to men. He writes, "A few months ago I decided to write my memoirs, a project I knew was going to bring me closer to an amazing turning point in my life."From the moment I wrote the first phrase I was sure the book was the tool that was going to help me free myself from things I was carrying within me for a long time. Things that were too heavy for me to keep inside. Writing this account of my life, I got very close to my truth. And this is something worth celebrating."He also reveals many close aides and friends advised him against revealing the "entire truth," but he is admitting, "Allowing myself to be seduced by fear and insecurity became a self-fulfilling prophecy of sabotage. Today I take full responsibility for my decisions and my actions."He adds, "These years in silence and reflection made me stronger and reminded me that acceptance has to come from within and that this kind of truth gives me the power to conquer emotions I didn't even know existed."What will happen from now on? It doesn't matter. I can only focus on what's happening to me in this moment. The word 'happiness' takes on a new meaning for me as of today. It has been a very intense process. Every word that I write in this letter is born out of love, acceptance, detachment and real contentment. Writing this is a solid step towards my inner peace and vital part of my evolution. "I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man. I am very blessed to be who I am."

Editors Note: Oh please, everyone knew. I knew way back so many years ago, when you were hanging at Private Eyes in New York City. You were so young, and the things I heard......

Miley Cyrus

Superstar Miley Cyrus has said she is done with the music business after she comes out with her next album, and it is released in June. The star wants to concentrate on movies. Miley shot to international stardom playing pop star Hannah Montana, getting the part when she was just 12 years old. On the red carpet for her new film "The Last Song," Miley told the media, "I've got a record coming out in June and then I'm done. I just want to work in movies. That's what I like and that's what I want to be doing."

Sweet revenge: In this weeks Steppin' Out magazine, Alessandra Torresani, who stars in the new Syfy drama "Caprica" tells Chaunce Hayden what happens when a guy cheats on her...... It ain't pretty.

Alessandra Torresani

I'm not that bad ass. But I'm Italian and Jewish. It's a bad combo. I've actually beaten down ex-boyfriends! Nobody f**ks with me. Let's just say that. I'm crazy. When a guy who I'm dating doesn't respect me and would rather be with other girls, I quickly make it known I don't take that. I've had boyfriends leave me for models. So the best revenge I can think of is being on billboards on every street in New York and Los Angeles. I hope they see that the girl they left me for don't have posters all over major cities just about them. I don't need any Karate skills. My show ["Caprica"] speaks for itself.
