FIRST ANNUAL VARLI FOOD FESTIVAL COMING
Foodies get excited! VARLI Magazine will premiere The First Annual Varli Food Festival, the first Indian cuisine event of its kind, next month! The festival will showcase Indian fare from the finest local restaurants and will promote awareness for Indian culture, featuring food and drink tastings, cooking demonstrations by celebrity chefs, a silent auction and cookbook sales and three film screenings. The event will also donate 10% of total proceeds to the Food Bank for New York City, as well as 100% of the silent auction and cookbook earnings.
Those in attendance will have the opportunity to sample various dishes from 30 Indian restaurants from New York City—such as Tamarind, Devi, Pranna, Junoon, Tulsi and Chola— and will be treated to an open bar and several dessert stations. Those nervous to try the fare need not be afraid! Famous chefs such as Maneet Chauhan (Food Network’s The Next Iron Chef), Hari Nayak (author, Modern Indian Cooking and Spice, and Co-Founder of Cooking For Life), Floyd Cardoz (formerly Executive Chef of Tabla Restaurant and author of One Spice, Two Spice), Hemant Mathur (featured on PBS’ How To Cook Everything: Bittman Takes On America’s Chefs and Food Trip with Todd English, as well as Travel Channel’s “Epicurious TV) and Jehangir Mehta (the Food Network’s Iron Chef America and The Next Iron Chef, as well as author, Mantra the Rules of Indulgence), will exhibit their culinary talents by crafting specialty one-of-a-kind plates. Flying in from India, Sanjeev Kapoor, selected by Richard Quest (CNN) as one of the top five Celebrity Chefs in the world, will also treat guests in an on-stage cooking presentation!
Not just a foodie event, Junoon Hospitality will present, True Business and Karma to Nirvana, two films based on the bond between food and religion, will be shown during the showcase. An exclusive documentary by VARLI will also be shown, exploring the history and individuals of the Indian culinary industry. Patrons will also have the opportunity to bid in a silent auction with items ranging from a cooking lesson with a renowned Indian chef to an exclusive wine tasting affair. As if all this was not enough, each guest will recieve a certificate booklet granting access into the finest Indian restaurants in New York City. Food lovers mark your calendars— the First Annual Varli Food Festival will take place at the Altman Building on Thursday, April 7, 2011!
