Whether it’s brunch, lunch, dinner, or dessert, learn to cook:

• Michelle Phillips’s (The Mamas & The Papas) Organic Lemon Chicken

• Lou Christie’s Linguine with Fresh Tomatoes

• Marilyn McCoo’s (The 5th Dimension) Leg of Lamb

• Glen Campbell’s Favorite Mexican Chicken Casserole

• Sarah Dash’s (Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles) Peach Cobbler

Woman's Day First Real Person Issue

In a first for the magazine, the June issue of Woman’s Day, now on newsstands nationwide, features two real women who walked their way to weight loss success. Both Vanessa Herron and Tallena Johnson lost a combined 200+ pounds with simple, inspiring changes in their daily lifestyles.

Says Thousand Oaks, CA resident Vanessa Herron (left): “A doctor’s visit in February 2014 was my wakeup call. I was 242 pounds, prediabetic, and my blood pressure was sky-high. I knew it was serious, and I had to focus on getting healthy. The problem: I’m a working mom of four kids ranging in age from 14 to 22, so I have limited time. I thought about ways to fit activity into my day. I realized my daughter’s middle school was one mile away. So, I started walking her there instead of driving. At the beginning, I wasn’t able to keep up. I’d wave Brenda on and go back home. Each day, I went a little farther and was eventually able to make the whole trip. After four months, I was down 40 pounds and could walk without huffing and puffing. Today, my health measures are in normal ranges and I’ve shaken the ‘victim’ mentality. In other words, I felt like life was running me instead of me running my life. I now believe that if I can work hard enough to change my health, then I can apply that discipline to other areas. It’s been going well—I devote time each day to my novel and other writing aspirations!”

Says Fremont, NE resident Tallena Johnson (right): “When I was really heavy, I felt like people were staring at me, so I didn’t go into stores or restaurants by myself. I’d walk with my head down and avoid eye contact. My mom had a heart attack at age 41, when I was 19, and that was never far from my mind. On my 39th birthday in 2012, I hit 250 pounds and thought, I’m going to die if I don’t do something. So I set a goal to get under 200 pounds by age 40. I joined the Anytime Fitness gym near my house, but at first I could barely walk on the treadmill for 10 minutes. I didn’t want to overdo it and get frustrated, so I decided to add just 1 minute of walking each day. After 20 days, I was up to 30 minutes of walking and the pounds were consistently coming off. If I couldn’t make it to the gym, I’d stroll around town with my then teenage daughters, Kayla and Kendra. Now, I feel like I am turning heads—in a good way. I hold my head up high with my shoulders back, I smile and make eye contact. I try to radiate positivity.”

Gianaluca Mech

Gianaluca Mech, one of Italy's most prominent health-food authorities, will introduce his world-famous, weight-losing Italiano Pasta Diet at the International Food Service Show of New York before 16,000 chefs and caterers, to be held March 8 through March 10th at the Jacob K. Javits Center in Manhattan.

Non Sono A Dieta
The Italiano Diet uses herbal extracts to help users lose weight while still allowing them to eat pasta and Italian comfort food. Gianaluca Mech's formula derives from a century-old recipe handed down from his family, called "Diet Tisanorica." Hundreds of thousands of Italians use ''Dieta Tisanorica'' vegetable based pastas and products and actually loose weight. Ginaluca Mech has been on hundreds of television shows and has been profiled by newspapers in Europe. Leading Italian government and political figures are among those who have used Mech's diet program. The Former Prime Minster of Italy Silvio Berluscioni had gone on this diet which made international headlines. It is considered Italy's number one diet, which many Italian celebrities use.

In the U.S., dieting and health have become part of the nation's daily conversation. Diets like Atkins, South Beach, Zone, Weight Watchers and others have been on peoples' radar screen for decades. There is good reason. Fully one-fourth of the American population is considered obese, and the problem is even worse among school children. First Lady Michelle Obama has taken a leading role in the fight against obesity. Americans spend over $60 million a year on diets.

Emeril Lagasse

The Venetian® Las Vegas will host the city's culinary event of the year, Ultimo - A Weekend of Excellence, Dec. 5-7. Featuring lavish feasts of the finest food and extraordinary experiences from an A-team of luxury brands, Ultimo will celebrate the romance of Italy and the magic of its cuisine, as it unfolds around The Venetian and The Palazzo® Las Vegas.

This special winter weekend of luxury experiences will include the return of the Venetian's Grand Banquet, a landmark collaboration between several of the world¹s best culinary celebrities, including Chefs Daniel Boulud, Emeril Lagasse, and Buddy "Cake Boss" Valastro.

Introduced in 2013, the Grand Banquet spans the iconic Grand Colonnade of The Venetian on a spectacular single table that seats nearly 200 people. This sumptuous setting with its meal fit for royalty was called 'the grandest meal ever served in Las Vegas' by last year¹s host Chef Mario Batali.

The event is presented in conjunction with Robb Report magazine and Southern Wine and Spirits of Nevada, and will benefit the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health.

Ultimo A Weekend of Excellence will feature an entire experience for guests:

The Arrival

On Friday, guests who fly into McCarran International Airport (or any of the private options in Las Vegas) will be driven to The Venetian in a Bentley or Rolls-Royce, or one of the resort's limousines. Check-in will be provided at the exclusive VIP lounge, and each guest will be escorted to a luxurious suite, including a choice of premium suites that are normally reserved for 'high-roller' casino guests.

The first social affair, the Welcome Reception at fine jewelry and watch boutique Bellusso, will feature caviar, champagne and a showing of sophisticated timepieces. The party will then move on to the Grand Colonnade for a dinner of a lifetime, The Grand Banquet.

The Grand Banquet

One would have to travel to Europe to find a meal with a similar romantic setting as the weekend¹s main event: The Grand Banquet. In fact, the banquet will be served within the stunning and iconic Grand Colonnade, amid authentic frescoes hand painted by Italian artists, 25-foot columns of Botticino marble, and floors inspired by the Church of Santa Maria del Rosario. Spanning the Grand Colonnade, a spectacular single table will seat nearly 200 people, a breathtaking setting that follows a European trend to host grand community meals in the most impressive public spaces.

Brad Pitt And Marc Perrin

Hollywood’s most famous celebrity couple took their zeal for winemaking to a new level with the release of their acclaimed Miraval rosé last year. Longtime wine lover Brad Pitt and partner Angelina Jolie escape the hustle and bustle of Hollywood to pursue quiet time on the vineyard and explore new terroirs.

Wine Spectator’s recent interview with Brad Pitt is on newsstands June 3rd.

On the estate he and Angelina Jolie bought in 2012 for an estimated $60 million: “We became impassioned with this place, which could produce its own wine, its own food, and become a place where artists could congregate and share ideas.”

On being a farmer, and his love for the land: “I’m a farmer now. I love learning about the land and which field is most suitable for which grape, the drama of September and October: Are we picking today? Where are the sugar levels? How is the acidity? Is it going to rain? It’s been a schooling for me. In the off months, I enjoy cleaning the forest and walking the land.”

On his own compulsive nature: “For better or worse, given my compulsive nature, if we are going to be in the wine business, let’s make the best wine we can…I asked the question, ‘Why can’t we make world-class wine in Provence?’ Let’s approach it like a film, and let’s make something we can be proud of and people can enjoy.”

On partnering with wine superstar Marc Perrin: “I was looking for someone I could learn from and who would be interested in drawing on the strengths of Provence and the terroir of Miraval…When you look at the Rhône Valley and its great winemakers Château de Beaucastel and the Perrin family were not just at the top of our list, but make some of our favorite wines. Fortunately, [they] were interested in working with us as well.”

Dominique Ansel On Wendy Williams

French chef, Dominique Ansel, visited The Wendy Williams Show to exclusively reveal the latest creation to emerge from his New York-based bakery today. The 'Waffogato' is an elaborate waffle-shaped ice cream concoction, over which coffee with maple syrup is poured to release tapioca pearls as it melts together.

Dominique described his creation, "There is Belgian waffles inside, tapioca pearls and sea salt. And then we pour maple syrup and coffee on top. As you pour the hot liquid, you will see the tapioca pearls coming out. And this we will be serving at the bakery for the next week and we will serve it tonight for Taste of the Nation."

Opened in 2011, Dominique Ansel Bakery has since produced the Cronut, named by Time Magazine as one of the 25 best inventions of 2013; the Cookie Shot, which launched at SXSW and is only available daily after 3pm; and it's signature DKA, a twist on a traditional Breton pastry.
