Ten years ago, when celebrity personal trainer and Sag Harbor resident, JB Berns, suffered a martial arts related injury, little did he suspect it was going to change his life for the better and lead to the creation of Consumer Reports #1 cardiovascular workout, Urban Rebounding. During his rehabilitation, JB worked closely with therapists on different rebounding techniques to re-gain full use of his legs and muscles. As JB began to regain strength, he realized what an amazing tool rebounding was, not only for strength training but also fat burning and fitness. Working with a team of physiotherapists, JB created Urban Rebounding, a fitness and strength training program that utilizes the low impact strength training with a high energy cardiovascular workout. The Urban Rebounding combines a thirty to sixty minute workout with the unique Urban Rebounding equipment. The equipment consists of a spring enhanced device, similar to a trampoline that absorbs shock, allowing the body to work harder for a longer period of time. Effectively alleviating the jarring impact often associated with high energy aerobics. This makes Urban Rebounding a safe and effective exercise plan for a variety of people across the age spectrum. Having worked with a number of martial arts masters, including Jackie Chan, Kow Loon Ong and Curtis Wong, JB Berns utilized these techniques within the Urban Rebounding programs. The fitness industry was just coming off the high-impact-Jane-Fond-aerobics craze of the 1980’s and JB saw the need for an exercise routine that would not leave years of damage in the knees of its participants. By jumping only a few inches off the equipment’s surface, Urban Rebounding provides participants with the calorie burning and strength training necessary to achieve the body they desire. The program is available in gyms across America, as well as at home through DVD sets. JB personally instructs classes at the luxury gym, Equinox in New York. On the tenth anniversary of the program, JB is thrilled at the overwhelming support the scientific community has discovered as to the positive benefits of Urban Rebounding. Recently, New Mexico University concluded a study which hindered solid evidence that the Urban Rebounding workout was as effective in burning calories as running on a treadmill, without the jarring effects on the joints. More so, the Cornell Hospital for Special Surgery found that study participants who used the Urban Rebounding workout for one month three times a week increased balance and coordination by up to 68%. However, none of these studies surprised JB Berns. He has seen the results of his hard work on his own body and in the thousands of participants he has worked with over the years.
