SUZANNE PLESHETTE DIES AT SEVENTY

Hollywood television star Suzanne Pleshette, best known for playing Emily Hartley on "The Bob Newhart Show," has died in Los Angeles at 70. Pleshette died Saturday at her home of respiratory failure after a prolonged battle with lung cancer, The Washington Post reported. Pleshette also enjoyed success in feature films, including "Geisha Boy," "A Rage to Live" and the 1963 Alfred Hitchcock classic, "The Birds" -- in which her character was killed by a flock of rampaging gulls.More recently, Pleshette did voice over work on the animated features, "Spirited Away" and "The Lion King II," and guest-starred on TV comedies including "Will & Grace."She was nominated for many Emmy Awards, including one for her performance in the title role of the 1991 CBS TV movie, "Leona Helmsley: The Queen of Mean."Pleshette was married to actor Tom Poston, who died at 85 in April 2007.
