Hollywood star Gwyneth Paltrow showed off her singing talents at a charity karaoke show in London, after a $90,000 bid prompted her to take to the stage and perform. Paltrow was taking part in the Karaoke with the Stars event on Thursday night at the city's famous Ronnie Scott's jazz bar, helping raise money for Palestinian refugee children. The actresses offer to sing attracted the highest amount of bids, with Paltrow eventually stepping up to the microphone for a rendition of Roberta Flack's classic "Killing Me Softly."Model-turned-actress Lily Cole also took to the stage, joining Bryan Ferry for a performance of "Let's Stick Together." The event raised over $440,000 for their causes.

She says, "I was given a cookery lesson with Jamie one birthday, which was the best. He came to the house and brought everything with him."Not in (British supermarket) Sainsbury’s bags - in restaurant crates. It was phenomenal. I’d only met him in passing before. He’s such a great guy." And Paltrow now thinks she is close to becoming a cooking expert herself. She adds, "Making your own pasta is definitely worth it. You can do a really nice cheese and walnut sauce. Toast walnuts in oil, add dolcelatte (cheese) and a bit of cream, some Parmesan cheese and butter and stir it up." Paltrow is trying out her new skills in her own cookery show, which she is filming in Spain alongside Michelin-starred chef Mario Batali.

Trooper Gwyneth, tried to keep acting on through the pain, before discovering the injury needed surgery. She says, "I broke my knee - because I’m a moron and I’m always bashing into things by accident. I’ve broken my toes 30 times."I don’t know what’s wrong with me. I bashed my knee, it really hurt." The accident even caused a bust-up with director John Favreau, who was convinced she was exaggerating her pain: "I kept exercising and running around in the movie. Then it really started to expand. In one scene I’m running away from Ironmonger - the bad Iron Man - and I said to John, ‘My knee is really hurting, I don’t know how many times I can do this.’ He was rolling his eyes, saying ‘you’re fine’."But I went to the doctor and I had a fracture so bad they had to do surgery the next day. They put cement in there! So I felt very smug and he apologised."It still doesn’t feel right. I had a nerve problem. My legs don’t feel the same. Sometimes it happens with surgery. If I get a wax, one leg hurts more than the other."

GWYNETH PALTROW SUFFERED DEPRESSION

Hollywood star Gwyneth Paltrow suffered postpartum depression following the birth of her 2-year-old son, Moses. The actress, who is married to Coldplay rock star Chris Martin, makes the claim in the May issue of Vogue magazine. Following the birth of her son a year ago, Paltrow explains, "I felt really out of my body. I felt really disconnected. I felt really down, I felt pessimistic." But she claims she didn't realize she had a problem, until she had recovered, and she believes her mini-depression came about because she stopped undergoing acupuncture while she was pregnant. Paltrow has another child with Martin, daughter Apple, who turns 4 next month.

Exact details surrounding her visit have been shrouded in mystery, but Paltrow’s publicist Stephen Huvane has now confirmed the actress’ hospitalisation, although he has refused to comment further on the incident. He tells E! News, "Everything is fine and she is back at home."

Astonishingly, the script took 10 years to complete by which time writer-and-director Keshishian decided Gwyneth, 34, was too old, so the part went to Brittany Murphy, 29. Keshishian said: "By the time I finished, Gwyneth was pregnant. So I thought, 'OK, you're now officially too old to play this role.'"Brittany got the part because the character is meant to be a young girl, before she figures out what love is."Gwyneth - who now has two children, daughter Apple and son Moses, with musician husband Chris Martin - has a cameo in the film.Welsh actor Matthew Rhys plays Brittany's gay best friend in the movie. At the Hollywood premiere of the film last week, Matthew, 32, tried to take a hot dog and some nachos into the cinema to eat while he watched the film, but was refused entry by security. Instead, the 'Brother and Sisters' star had to enjoy his calorific snacks in the green room.
