MICKY DOLENZ AND HOT GRAMMY GOSSIP

How could you have a salute to NEIL DIAMOND ... and, not invite our good friend MICKY DOLENZ ... from The Monkess. Diamond's 1966 song "I'm A Believer" for the band was a huge hit featuring Dolenz's impeccable vocals. The song, produced by the legendary JEFF BARRY, hit the number one spot on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart on December 31, 1966 and remained there for sevens weeks, becoming the biggest selling record for all of 1967, and one of the biggest of all time. Because of advance orders, over 1,051,280 .. it went gold within two days of release. The song is listed at #48 on Billboard's All Time Top 100. I was in a Duane Reade today ... heard it playing ... and, it sounded as good today as then! MUSICARES, one of the outreach programs of NARAS, hold its annual event two days before the Grammys, saluting Diamond ... this Friday ... and, as of this writing Dolenz has not been formally invited to the event. Dolenz's PR-man (The Pasha!) DAVID SALIDOR said late-yesterday, "When this was first announced last year, I began plotting to have Dolenz appear ... I mean, to me ... and, obviously now Roger Friedman ... it makes perfect sense. How could he NOT be there? Neil Portnow, Mr. Grammy, is a good guy and he'll do the right thing." ROGER FRIEDMAN, in his FOX 411 Friday, said this:"Neil Diamond gets the legend treatment next Friday night in Los Angeles when MusiCares, one of the two Grammy foundations, honors him as Person of the Year. There are still some tickets left to hear a wide variety of contemporary stars tackle Neil’s most famous songs, from "Sweet Caroline" to "America." There’s a list that includes everyone from Coldplay to Jennifer Hudson. But who I really want to see is Micky Dolenz doing "I’m a Believer." Someone had better invite the ex-Monkee ASAP!" As Dolenz is on a particularly productive roll right now; he's one of the members of CMT's third-season of GONE COUNTRY (which premiered last Saturday to terrific numbers); was just on BONNIE HUNT this week; and, will be at the Grammy Radio Roll next week; he should be there! As we go to press ... Times Square Gossip has been exclusively informed by a very reliable and credible source, there is a plan afoot to have Dolenz perform with another band who will be performing ... dare I reveal, a boy band! Makes sense as The Monkess were THE first boy band anyway! MORE TO FOLLOW!
