Editors Note: I was at a fancy celebrity party around Christmas many years ago. They were serving Crystal Champagne and Caviar, top name acts were performing on a beautiful snowy day on the lower East Side of New York City. They must have spent 200 thousand to make a 20 thousand profit. I looked around this room of rich and powerful people who really thought they were doing something good by donating and coming to this bash. I thought to myself how could a charity spend this much money to make a little more money. I'm looking around the room at the charities staff. High paid Ex. Directors, huge staff, the top Public Relations firm in New York City. Im thinking that this event wouldn't ever cover one of their salaries. I was disgusted. I go to these parties all the time around New York City. There are ten charity events a night like this in the Big Apple. It makes me sick. To spend these dollars on fancy events when the money should be used to help the people that really need it. Anyway, back to my story. I'm at this fancy party on this snowy day in New York City with all these rich and famous celebrities. I leave the party and on the same street I see a line outside this old NYC building. The people are freezing. A tent is set up outside to try to keep the people warm. I look up at the name on the building and I see The Bowery Mission. I ask some homeless guy what they were waiting for. He said they were waiting on line for Christmas dinner and he also said he needed a coat, he was cold. I thought to myself how sad. A couple of hundred feet down the block there were the richest people in the world, eating, drinking and having a good time and un-noticed a shout away was starving and cold homeless people waiting online in the snow for a hot meal and a coat. How sad is this? Over the past few years, I now send The Bowery Mission a check. Not much, but a little something a few times a year. I researched them from top to bottom. I realized almost every penny was going to help people in need. No big salaries, no huge fancy parties. They have endless volunteers from High School kids to Senior Citizens. They sent me a letter the other day. They are facing a serious financial crisis. Donations are drying up because of the bad economy. We are all hurting but we have a roof over our head and we have food. The people at The Bowery Mission are living on the edge. If all my millions of readers sent in even a dollar, 5 dollars, 10 dollars or anything, they would have what they need to keep helping poor homeless people whose only hope is The Bowery Mission. Please help and tell them Times Square Gossip sent you, so they know our readers care. You can donate or find out more by going to their website or send them a check to the address above.
