Debbie Gibson The Path Fund’s 22nd annual ROCKERS ON BROADWAY 80’s REWIND benefit concert will honor 80’s Pop Princess, Debbie Gibson with the Rockers Lifetime Achievement Award on Monday, November 9, 2015 at Le Poisson Rouge (158 Bleeker Street) at 7:30 p.m. ROCKERS ON BROADWAY is a fun and unique charity concert that will feature Broadway’s best rockers performing the biggest hits in 80’s Rock n’ Roll. Proceeds from the evening will benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BCEFA) and non-profit performing arts education programs. Debbie Gibson burned up the charts in the 1980’s with teen pop smashes like “Lost in Your Eyes,” "Only in My Dreams" and “Shake Your Love.” In 1988 the Guinness Book of World Records named her the youngest female artist to write, produce, and perform a #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100, with her song “Foolish Beat.” She has gone on to star on Broadway and National Tours, as well as television and film. Gibson continues to write,...

DEBBIE GIBSON SINGS AT CO-CATHEDRAL OF ST.JOSEPH

Image
**** THE GLORIOUS CORNER Story By: G. H. HARDING **** Debbie Gibson CHRISTMAS GIBSON --- In the middle of rather hectic (and, somewhat surreal) Xmas season, we took pause and went out to Prospect Heights in Brooklyn last night to see a special holiday concert featuring none other than Debbie Gibson at The Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph. The pop-princess captivated the attendees with a mix of Xmas-delights (featuring her patented two dancers on several numbers) and performed two new songs, which to my studied ear, were just dazzling. Her current style, more cabaret than ever before, but simply terrific. I was deeply invested in Gibson’s early pop career –she stills holds the record for the youngest performer ever to have written, performed, and produced a #1 pop record- and she delighted critics and audiences alike with magnificent performances in Beauty And The Beast; Cabaret; Grease; as well as being a formidable cast member on Celebrity Apprentice; a...

TAYLOR SWIFT SENDS MUSIC INDUSTRY INTO SHOCK

Image
**** THE GLORIOUS CORNER Story By: G. H. HARDING **** Taylor Swift SWIFT’S SHAKE --- The music industry went into seismic shock yesterday when Taylor Swift (during a highly anticipated Yahoo! live stream) unveiled her new single “Shake It Off” and news about her forthcoming album, 1989. Per the artist, the album is her first real pop record and the single is a spot-on rendering of a true, blue pop single. At an record industry mixer of sorts last night, the assembled multitude pondered the impact of her new sound. PR-pasha David Salidor, remarked that the new single, as well as the video for the song (released yesterday as well) reminded him of nothing more than an artist he worked with in the late-80's … Debbie Gibson. He said the video was something of a direct steal from Gibson's own “We Could Be Together" video. He went onto to say that the essence of the record was great and a more-pop vehicle was bound to happen. “With the ...

THE HOT NYC CLUB "THE CUTTING ROOM"

Jordan Knight with Kool and Deborah Gibson May Pang with Sid Bernstein and Steve Walter Cutting room Co-Owner Chris Noth One of the hottest clubs, and one of the places where I have a great time is "The Cutting Room" on 24th street, between 5th and 6th avenue. The nightclub is owned by Sex In The City star Chris Noth and one of the most talented persons in NYC, Steve Walter. The club is always hopping with stars from Noth's Law And Order show and the movers and shakers of the music industry. My last trip there had Debbie Gibson, Jordan Knight (New Kids On The Block) and KOOL himself from Kool And The Gang. I've had fun with Cynthia Lennon, May Pang and the man who brought the Beatles to America, Sid Bernstein. If you are from NYC or just visiting, take a ride down to the Cutting Room and request the best waitress around, Susan. Photos: James Edstrom
