CBS NEWS 60 MINUTES BOB SIMON DIES IN CAR CRASH

Bob Simon NEW YORK CITY -- Bob Simon, the longtime "60 Minutes" correspondent and legendary CBS News foreign reporter died suddenly tonight in a car accident in New York City. The CBS reporter died when the Lincoln Town Car he was riding in crashed with a Mercedes and then lost control and plowed into a pedestrian expansion near 30th Street at about 7 p.m., according to sources. The driver of the Mercedes said the livery driver was driving erratically. “He swerved into me,” the driver said. “He hit me and he looked like he lost control of the car.” Simon was taken to St.Luke’s where he died. The award-winning newsman was 73. Simon's five-decade career took him through most major overseas conflicts spanning from the late 1960s to the present. Paul Walker Hansome actor Paul Walker, who stared of the "Fast and Furious" films, died today in a car accident and huge explosion in Southern California. This was first reported by TMZ . Walker's Facebook page has not confirmed the report. The TMZ report states the accident occurred in Santa Clarita, just north of Los Angeles. The actor was reportedly riding in a Porsche that lost control for an unknown reason and hit a tree before bursting into a fireball. Dick Van Patten Dick Van Patten was involved in a two vehicle crash, according to reports. The Eight Is Enough star was involved in a collision in Los Angeles California when he was driving his BMW in San Fernando Valley and struck the back of another car. According to authorities Van Patten looked for the other vehicle and did not see it, and left the scene of the accident without exchanging information. The woman driving the other vehicle had pulled into a gas station where she telephoned police. It is unclear whether or not the actor abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot, or whether he drove away. But Van Patten claims he drove to the Santa Anita race track, where his representative told TMZ , Jeff Ballard, he can be found; and the only place he runs is down the race track stretch when his horses win. Denise Richards was left shaken when her SUV was bashed by a Bentley driver last week. The actress, 36, was helping her 2-year-old daughter Sam out of the vehicle when the scary collision took place. A friend tells Life & Style magazine , "The door of her SUV was ripped off its hinges. Denise could've been killed." A visibly shaken Richards reportedly gave a statement to police at the scene before taking Sam home and calling boyfriend Richie Sambora, who dashed to the actress' home.

POP STAR 'BRANDY' BEING SUED FOR 50 MILLION FOR HER FATAL CAR CRASH

Brandy is being sued for $50 million for her involvement in a fatal car crash.The wrongful death lawsuit, filed by the parents of Awatef Aboudihah who died in the crash, claims Brandy was "driving recklessly" when she hit their daughter's vehicle. A representative for Brandy said: "The accident was a terrible tragedy and Brandy's heart goes out to Awatef Aboudihaj's family. But for legal reasons we cannot comment on this lawsuit."The suit, which was filed in Los Angeles' Superior Court on January 30, comes a day after the California Highway Patrol recommended Brandy is charged with misdemeanour vehicular manslaughter. The Los Angeles City Attorney's office is reviewing the case and will decide whether to file the charge. If the 'Moesha' star is charged and subsequently found guilty, the 27-year-old could face a year in jail.
