The Parrish Art Museum’s Midsummer Party is always one of the most glamorous galas of the Hamptons summer season and this year was no exception. Parrish Trustees Deborah Bancroft and Dorothy Lichtenstein the party’s co-chairs organized one of the most elegant and fun fetes of the summer which brought out a heady mix of Hamptons society. This year’s event honored Beth Rudin DeWoody and Ross Bleckner, two individuals whose lives reflect an extraordinary commitment to the arts. One of America’s most energetic and creative arts patrons, Beth Rudin DeWoody is a committed philanthropist, collector, curator, and supporter of the Parrish. Her dedication is matched only by her creativity and leadership. Over the years, Beth has served as a trustee of the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and New Yorkers for Children, to name just a few. Artist Ross Bleckner has been the subject of major exhibitions in museums internationally—he was the youngest artist ever to have a solo exhibition at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum—and his paintings are held in prominent collections throughout the world. Also a noted humanitarian, Ross serves on the board of AIDS Community Research Initiative of America (ACRIA) and is the only artist ever to be named as a United Nations Ambassador for Goodwill for his work with children in Uganda. Following cocktails in one beautifully appointed, the fashionably attired crowd of over 500 streamed into the beautifully decorated main tent designed by Claire Bean, Floral and Event Design for dinner, the honors presentation and dancing. Executive Director Terrie Sultan warmly welcomed the guest and introduced the first of the presenters Anne Pasternak, President and Artistic Director of Creative Time who spoke glowingly about Ms. De Woody’s impact on the world of art and her dynamic support of artists. Celebrated artist Eric Fischl delivered a heartfelt testimonial to his longtime friend and fellow Cal Arts alum Ross Bleckner. Following the presentations, guest tucked into a delightful summer salad featuring artichokes, tiny grape tomatoes and enormous shrimp, Main course was butter soft baby lamb chops, haricot vert and whipped potatoes followed by a decadent chocolate cake all prepared expertly by Glorious Food. At 10 pm 550 more guests arrived for dessert and dancing and DJ Tom Finn kept the dance floor throbbing until 1 am. Among the sparkling crowd were philanthropists Jean and Martin Shafiroff; husband and wife producing team Stewart Lane and Bonnie Comley, First lady of New York Michelle Paterson, Mildred Brinn, Lauren Roberts, Robin Cofer, artists Chuck Close, Connie Fox and Bill King and Dan Rizzie with Susan Lazarus writer Douglas Harrington and his son Yale Law grad Jack, designer Geoffrey Bradfield, Donna and Richard Soloway, fashion designers Isaac Mizrahi and Nicole Miller, Southampton Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst, Village Trustee Bonnie Cannon. Jeanette Hecktoen and Neil Slaughter, Alix Michel and the radiant young equestrian Brittan White.
