The East Hampton Library hosted their Authors Night recently, with proceeds going to the advancement of the library. The premiere literary event brought together 100 distinguished authors with over 2,500 book lovers on the Maidstone Lane field in the East Hampton Village. Prominent philanthropist and author, Jean Shafiroff, was present to sign her debut book, Successful Philanthropy: How to Make a Life by What You Give – a guide to modern philanthropy.



Successful Philanthropy: How to Make a Life by What You Give was written by Jean Shafiroff and published by Hatherleigh Press, Ltd. in 2016, and serves as a practical guide for both aspiring and seasoned philanthropist. It features an introduction from Georgina Bloomberg, the daughter of former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

At the Authors Night cocktail reception, guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and wine while perusing recent titles from popular authors with an opportunity to have their purchased books signed. Afterward, authors hosted exclusive dinner parties at various East Hampton residences.



The success of Authors Night was made possible by Dennis Fabiszak, Director of the East Hampton Library. Alec Baldwin attended the event as founding honorary chair. Honorary co-chairs and authors included: Gwyneth Paltrow, Christie Brinkley, Robert A. Caro, Dick Cavett, Mary Higgins Clark, Nelson DeMille, Eric Ripert, and Dr. Ruth Westheimer. Participating authors included: Jean Shafiroff, Michael Gross, Jay McInerney, Bridget Moynahan, Ally Hilfiger, Jennifer Esposito, Ina Garten, Elisa DiStefano, Alafair Burke, Janelle Friedman, Patiricia Gussin, and many more.

The East Hampton Library was founded in 1897 after being granted a charter by New York State. Mary Lorenzo Woodhouse donated the land where the library is now located, at 159 Main Street in East Hampton, New York. The library has successfully met the information, knowledge, and reading needs of Long Island’s residents, over the years, and also maintain the prestigious Long Island Collection for historical research.
