The Southampton Inn Playroom

Predictions of Hurricane Irene caused panic on the south fork in Long Island. As the forecasts worsened, many local Southampton establishments began prepping for this possible disastrous storm, especially the Southampton Inn. The owner of Southampton Inn knew it was important to begin stocking up on the most important staples and resources before the storm rolled in early Sunday morning. As of Friday afternoon, the Inn was fully supplied with essentials including water, beer, wine, sandwiches, candles and flashlights. The Inn received a high volume of calls from guests who wished to postpone their stay providing a lodging opportunity for many locals who were evacuated from their oceanfront communities and estates. The staff hosted more than 200 guests throughout the weekend and was fully prepared to face the storm. The Inn lies on one of the highest points of Southampton Village, which makes it one of the safer places to stay. It also has emergency lighting and underground transformers, along with a large basement that provided guests with safety as needed.

During the storm, the mood was festive while guests enjoyed company in the library drinking wine and playing cards and scrabble. The Inn was filled with locals and visitors alike, from children to pets— everyone was happy and safe from Hurricane Irene.

Southampton Inn is one of best places to lodge during any season, and any type of weather. An ideal home away from home, the Inn is nestled on more than five acres of manicured lawns and lushly landscaped grounds in the village of Southampton.
