SAD NEWS ON GLEN CAMPBELL'S ALZHEIMERS

Image
**** THE WEB GOSSIP **** Willie Nelson GLEN CAMPBELL --- I really never thought I'd be writing a missive on singer Glen Campbell, but the news last week that he is suffering from Alzheimer's weighed heavily on me … it really did. I first met and got to know him when my father worked for his then-manager Bill Thompson back in the magical 60's. I saw him up close and personal when he worked on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour and saw him shine like a beacon on his own follow up show The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour. He had already proven himself a major studio musician as his accomplishments including work with The Beach Boys ("Good Vibrations") and The Monkees, not to mention his work with The Wrecking Crew; the L.A.-based coterie of musicians that played, uncredited on so many legendary records of that era. That Crew also included Hal Blaine on drums; Tommy Tedesco on guitar; Leon Russell on piano; Carol Kaye on bass; and, Al Casey on guitar. They were also hea...

Willie Nelson Willie Nelson and several fellow musicians were charged with misdemeanor drug possession in Louisiana early yesterday after a police search of their tour bus turned up marijuana and psychedelic mushrooms. State Police spokesman Willie Williams said that when the bus was stopped about seven miles east of Lafayette, La., for a routine inspection, a trooper smelled marijuana inside it. Seized were 11/2 pounds of pot and two-tenths of a pound of mushrooms, he said. Nelson, 73, and four other passengers were cited for possession and released on their own recognizance. But the driver's Commercial license was suspended.Cops said Nelson faces up to six months in prison if convicted. A spokesman for the singer said she had no information about the arrest.
