The economy is effecting every facet of life here and none more so than life on The Strip. Gaming revenues, the number of visitors, hotel occupancy — all numbers are way down. The big activities in the city this week — aside from the attempt to fund the Mob Museum and the Miss America contestants arriving — were the press opening of Steve Wynn's Encore Resort and opening of Tom Jones at the MGM Grand. Wynn set the wow-factor standard with The Bellagio in 1993 and his 2005 opening of the Wynn Hotel suffered — rightly or wrongly — in comparison. But, now he's added Encore, a $2.3 billion resort that restores the wow factor in spades. Singing legend Tom Jones has a good reason for growing a goatee beard. It is hiding his cosmetic surgery scars.The Whats New Pussycat star is admitting that he has had several anti-ageing procedures, including work to his nose, eyes, and chin. And he is also confessing the surgery left him with a scar, which he covers up with facial hair. He says, "I had the fat removed from under my chin. That’s why I wear the goatee because it covers the scar. If I went for laser treatment, I could get rid of it, but I thought, f**k it, I’ll wear a goatee."My nose, that was straightened. Duffy Welsh singer Duffy has been forced to admit her parentage, after media reports emerged she was the love child of singing icon Tom Jones. The 23-year-old, says she is repeatedly forced to dispel rumors in her home country that the American singing star is her father. She says, "I know I’m dealing with this on a daily basis. It’s kind of bizarre. You’ve just got to let go and almost laugh at it because you can’t control what people say or assume." And Duffy insists her father is named John and runs a bar in her hometown of Nefyn, north Wales. She adds, "My dad is such a sweet guy. I don’t know if he has read the accusations about potential fatherhood."

Bainie Wild with Tom Jones and Larry Wild Is The Fantasticks the most romantic musical in the world? Larry and Bainie Wild think so. Their daughter, Paige who lives in Virginia (they live in Connecticut) called the Snapple Theater where The Fantasticks is currently playing and explained that her parents had tickets for the evening performance the other night. She asked if the actors could sign a program for them. They met on a blind date at the Sullivan Street Playhouse 40 years ago and saw The Fantasticks that night. They married soon after. He was a soldier; she was a nurse. They fell in love. Paige also arranged for the electronic sign by Toys R Us to read "Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad." 'What's New Pussycat' singer Tom Jones is laughing off rumors he has insured his famed chest hair for millions of dollars by putting the stories down to journalists having "a bit of fun".The legend had been rumored to have taken out a massive $7 million insurance policy with British firm Lloyds of London in a bid to protect his prized chest hair. But the star has dismissed the reports by accusing the media of making up the story for amusement.He writes on his Internet website, "No such policy exists or has ever been considered. We assume this is just a bit of fun."
