GAY HISTORY: THE DEATH AND LIFE OF MARSHA P. JOHNSON

Image
THE DEATH AND LIFE OF MARSHA P. JOHNSON This is a must watch movie to learn about gay history and the fight for equal rights. Marsha P. Johnson was one of the icons of the gay rights movement in the 1960s, the self-described "street queen" of NY's gay ghetto, and founded the Transvestites Action Revolutionaries with fellow luminary Sylvia Rivera. When Johnson's body was found in the Hudson River in 1992, police called it a suicide and didn't investigate. In David France's new documentary, trans activist Victoria Cruz seeks to uncover the truth of her death while celebrating her legacy. Victoria Cruz is amazing in this documentary. As she works to uncover what happened to Marsha P. Johnson, it brings back so many memories of the old gay scene in NYC and what is was like to be gay in the 70's and 80's.  I knew gay life from a different viewpoint. I was down at the piers, I watched the prostitution on West 10th street, but the diffe...

STONEWALL INN NEEDS TO LEARN THE LAW

**** STONEWALL AND JULIUS NEED TO LEARN LIQUOR LAWS **** The Stonewall Inn We are kinda pissed at Stonewall, the gay club in the village, because when we went in there a couple of weeks ago with some celebrities, they refused to serve any of us, because we had a 19yr old with us. Now this bar, that sparked the gay revolution, does not seem to know the New York State liquor laws. We told the bartender it was 18 to party and 21 to drink and he argued with us. He said he knew the laws and we did not. After Stonewall, we went to another New York City Gay landmark, Julius, and they were just as arrogant. Well here is the law from the New York State Liquor Authority. Minors in Licensed Establishments According to Section 260.21 of the Penal Law, persons under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to enter an on premises establishment. ON PREMISES Bartenders, waitresses, waiters, hostesses and/or any persons who handle and receive payment for alcoholic beverages must be at...

WORLD FAMOUS STONEWALL CLOSES DOORS

Image
The legend-the club "Stonewall" where the gay rights movement began, where the famous Stonewall riots took place in 1969, has been padlocked by the Landlord according to a bartender that showed up for work and the place was sealed up.When we visited Stonewall today, we were shocked that this landmark has been padlocked and shut by the buildings landlord for, according to the bartender, non-payment of rent to the tune of $175.000. The bartender went on to say the the owner told him the place was being renovated, but said he was flat out lieing. Meanwhile a sigh over the club says, " Restaurant for Rent", meaning the landlord is looking for a new tenant. The bartender also said that this is happening all over in the gay community with straight people buying up very successful gay clubs and running them into the ground. One only has to look in the West Village once a mecca for the gay life where businesses once gay owned and operated have been brought by straight people...
