GAY HISTORY: THE DEATH AND LIFE OF MARSHA P. JOHNSON

Image
THE DEATH AND LIFE OF MARSHA P. JOHNSON This is a must watch movie to learn about gay history and the fight for equal rights. Marsha P. Johnson was one of the icons of the gay rights movement in the 1960s, the self-described "street queen" of NY's gay ghetto, and founded the Transvestites Action Revolutionaries with fellow luminary Sylvia Rivera. When Johnson's body was found in the Hudson River in 1992, police called it a suicide and didn't investigate. In David France's new documentary, trans activist Victoria Cruz seeks to uncover the truth of her death while celebrating her legacy. Victoria Cruz is amazing in this documentary. As she works to uncover what happened to Marsha P. Johnson, it brings back so many memories of the old gay scene in NYC and what is was like to be gay in the 70's and 80's.  I knew gay life from a different viewpoint. I was down at the piers, I watched the prostitution on West 10th street, but the diffe...

HOT TOPICS @ THE VIEW: ELLEN DEGENERES CALLS ACADEMY ON KEVIN HART'S BEHALF

Hot Topics: Ellen Degeneres calls Academy on Kevin Hart’s behalf. Ana Navarro says allowing Hart to host “could be a teaching moment”: “We have got to let go of people who have apologized. If people are going to evolve, what’s the point of evolving if you’re not going to move on?” “When is a person allowed to evolve? When is a person allowed to become an ally? And I think he should be allowed… And I would like to see him become the host of the Oscars and use the opportunity … to become that ally,” Sunny Hostin adds. “I think that he has to come out and say ‘I was wrong, that is ignorance – we have people who are killing themselves...’ he hasn’t said any of that," Meghan McCain says. “Being LGBT and young in this country, especially in places [like] where I’m from in the middle of the country isn't always easy.” “Just say ‘I’m really sorry and I would like to take this opportunity and this platform to use it’” she adds. JESSE VENTURA DEFENDS GAY RIGHTS MOVEMENT

Image
Jesse Ventura On Jesse Ventura's online show "Off The Grid," he examines what states legalized same-sex marriage, what states banned it, and he gives his opinion on all of it. He considers the gay rights movement as "the civil rights movement of today." Jesse Ventura is an outspoken supporter and advocate of gay rights. Here's an excerpt from his weekly blog:  I think it’s easy for me to look at gay rights objectively because I’m an atheist. I don’t have a book dictating to me that some people have a right to get married and some people don’t. I don’t have that prejudice in my heart. I don’t look at same sex marriage as a Republican issue or a Democratic issue. I look at it as a civil rights issue, because that’s exactly what it is. The majority is denying the minority the basic right of falling in love and officially stating that they want to live together as a couple, as a family unit, as legal partners.  Those same Tea Party...
