TORONTO DAVID BOWIE SHOW IS SENSATIONAL

Image
**** THE GLORIOUS CORNER By: G.H. Harding **** David Bowie BOWIE IN TORONTO --- The David Bowie-show at the Art Gallery of Toronto (AGO) which I visited this weekend was just a sensational Bowie-thon of sound and vision. There’s literally so much video, music and personal mementos, such as his many costumes, that almost borders on overkill; especially the final stop in the show, which is literally wall-to-wall Bowie in various concert performances.  I really loved seeing Bowie perform “Heroes” from the 9/11 show in New York. Reportedly he was suffering from a severe case of the flu, but his performance was particularly stirring; especially the footage of the police singing along note-for-note. There was also footage from the legendary Diamond Dogs tour; where he had David Sanborn on sax as well as Luther Vandross as one of his backup singers. I also loved seeing footage from his last tour, the so-called Reality tour.  I also loved seeing ...

ANGIE BOWIE TALKS ON HER BROKEN HEART

Image
Angie Bowie Pop star David Bowie's ex-wife Angie, regrets giving up custody of the former couple’s son, movie maker Duncan Jones, and wishes she could now be part of his life. Angie Bowie married the singer in 1970 and they welcomed Duncan Zowie Haywood Jones a year later in 1971. They divorced in 1980 and Angie agreed to give up custody of her son and accepted $750,000 in a settlement deal. But the 61 year old Angie regrets the divorce deal, because it’s caused an irreversible rift with her son. She told Britain’s Sunday Express, "The last time I heard from him was four or five years ago by email." Angie admits watching Jones’ debut movie Moon, which won him the Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer at last month’s British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards, "broke" her heart. She adds, "I saw the movie and it was marvellous. I love it. It’s even more exceptional when you consider that it’s his first major offering. F...

JAMES CAMERON'S 'AVATAR' PASSES BILLION

Image
**** THE WEB GOSSIP **** James Cameron Hard to believe but James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ passed the $1billion dollar mark this weekend. I saw it right before Xmas and you know what, it reminded me of Titanic. Beautifully rendered and utterly inspired. I don’t recall who said it, but it spoke volumes: “Cameron is doing what a lot of other action directors are doing … but, he just does it much, much better,” Amen. I also caught two movies that somehow I missed this year, ‘Star Trek’ and Tony Scott’s-remake of the ‘Taking of Pelham 123.’ As a major Trekker (I still have the vinyl copy of Shatner’s 1968 album ‘The Transformed Man’) the Trek-saga unraveled pretty close to the original … but, there are some major revisions: like Spock getting close to Uhura this time, and much ado about time-travel, which confused me at times. Zachary Quinto, from TV’s ‘Heroes,’ was terrific, Chris Pine, Kirked-it up a notch and was riveting to watch; and, Leonard Nimoy himself … outstanding. “Even in the bacchan...

NEW BOOK SAY'S DAVID BOWIE USED A WITCH

Image
David Bowie A white witch allegedly helped cure Rock icon David Bowie of his drug-fuelled paranoia, according to a new book about the star. Writer Mark Spitz spent years talking to the legend, as well as Bowie's family and friends, in a bid to explode the myths about "Let's Dance" in his new tome, "Bowie." And Spitz is revealing how the rocker called on magic to help him get through a terrifying part of his life. In the book, Spitz writes, "While planning the follow-up to 'Young Americans' (album), Bowie would sit in the house with a pile of high-quality cocaine atop the glass coffee table, a sketch pad and a stack of books. 'Psychic Self Defense' was his favorite. Its author describes the book as a 'safeguard for protecting yourself against paranormal malevolence.' "Using this and more arcane books on witchcraft, white magic and its malevolent counterpart, black magic, as rough guides to his own rapidly fragmenting psyche,...

David Bowie Singing icon David Bowie is reportedly in talks to bring back his famous Ziggy Stardust persona for a one-time appearance at a music festival. Bowie, who is currently back in the studio recording a new record, is said to be in talks with the organizers of this year’s Coachella festival in California. The famed star has been asked to perform his 1972 glam LP, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, in it’s entirety for the three-day event in April. A source tells the British newspaper the Daily Star, "Coachella tried to book Bowie last year and he refused, so they got Prince to headline instead. But there’s a very strong chance they will be able to persuade him this year."

BOY GEORGE THANKS BOWIE FOR BEING GAY

Image
Boy George Gender bender Boy George is praising rock icon David Bowie for helping him come out as gay.The openly homosexual singer is admitting he was "confused" by his sexuality as a young teenager, but had the courage to accept his feelings when Bowie confessed in 1972 that he is bisexual. And George hopes he had a similar effect on adolescents during his 1980s heyday. He told fans at a concert in London last night, "When I was a little queer boy I was very confused. Then along came this man - David Bowie and everything seemed to make sense for me, and a lot of other people too, I suppose. I think I had the same impact to people a few years later. I’m very proud of that." Photos By: RD / Dziekan / Walter McBride/Retna Digital
