NEW YORK CITY MOVES FAST ON SIPPING STRAWS

Protect Our Waters You Give a Sip, and they're listening! NYC is moving fast on a bill to get rid of single-use plastic straws and stirrers in food service establishments throughout the city. This is great news for turtles, fish, birds, and other marine wildlife. Some very important decisions on this issue will take place at an upcoming New York City Council committee hearing. This Thursday, 6/21 at 11:45 AM, join us on the steps of NYC City Hall for a Rally to Ban Plastic Straws prior to the hearing — we need to up the momentum! Use the City Hall Park entrance on Broadway and Park Place. And don’t forget: tell your City Council member : protect our waters from plastic pollution and support a ban on single-use plastics straws! New York City Council Member Rafael L. BILL --- I watched Bill DeBlasio’s mayoral inauguration in NYC and a few things caught my eye and ear: Apparently there was a DJ on hand; nightlife favorite M.O.S., whom played such favorites as “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk and “Good Times” from CHIC (both Nile Rodgers-project); actress Cynthia Nixon; activist Harry Belafonte; Bill and Hillary Clinton; a tense-looking Michael Bloomberg; David Dinkins; Andrew Cuomo (who was at Billy Joel’s Barclay Center concert New Year’s night); Broadway actress and singer Patina Miller, and sitting in the audience, Marty Markowitz. As I've said before, I have yet become a DeBlasio-devotee, but I whole-heatedly welcome him aboard.
