AMERICA'S POP MUSIC HALL OF FAME CHUBBY CHECKER

Image
**** THE GLORIOUS CORNER Story By: G. H. HARDING **** Chubby Checker SATURDAY NIGHT RINGO --- This past Saturday was an evening of peace and love and honors long-overdue for Beatles drummer Ringo Starr, who finally rocked his way into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. Ringo's induction was the final one of a very long evening that even included a brief power outage during Starr’s part of the program, said our on-sight spy. Those in attendance with Ringo besides fellow Beatle Paul McCartney, who gave the induction speech, were Ringo's wife Barbara Bach, Olivia Harrison, Macca’s wife Nancy Shevell, and Yoko Ono. For a time, the original rock ‘n roll “killer” himself Jerry Lee Lewis was seen sitting at their table. And our spy further reported that all the Beatle wives were seen dancing to John Legend when he performed during the tribute to Bill Withers, who was also inducted Saturday night. “When Ringo first...

ELTON JOHN'S MILLION DOLLAR PIANO HIGH DEFINITION

Image
**** THE GLORIOUS CORNER Story By: G.H. Harding **** Elton John ELTON’S PIANO --- On July 1, 2014, Eagle Rock will release The Million Dollar Piano by the inimitable Elton John. This amazing show was filmed in high definition and will be simultaneously released on Blu-ray and DVD. Million Dollar Piano is packed with John classics including: “I’m Still Standing,” “Rocket Man,” “Philadelphia Freedom,” “Your Song,” “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” “Circle Of Life,” “Blue Eyes,” “Bennie And The Jets,” “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me,” “Crocodile Rock,” “I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues,” and many more.  Also included is the track “Indian Sunset,” (from John's brilliant 1971 Madman Across The Water album) performed by John with percussionist Ray Cooper. Cooper, who did the so-called two-man show with John in Russia all those years ago, is stand-out spectacular. It is, without a doubt, a major highlight in the package. The Million Dolla...

RINGO STARR AND PAUL MCCARTNEY ONCE AGAIN

Image
**** THE GLORIOUS CORNER Story By: G. H. HARDING **** Ringo Starr GRAMMY DEAREST --- It was another old school vs. new school night at The Grammy's - their 56th broadcast - last night. Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr sat front and center and were probably as bemused as most of the crowd, there and at home, by the rather bizarre performances from Katy Perry, Lorde (who did win Song of the Year), and even Pink; whose become known as much for her aerial abilities as for her singing. Dangling high above the cavernous Staples Center as she sang; I couldn't help but wonder what safety provisions were being employed. I mean, it’s commendable, but is it safe? Teen-sensation Hunter Hayes was impressive, but seemed much too young and much too green to snare such a key-performance slot. Jay Z and wife Beyonce opened the show with the latter’s “Drunk In Love.” It was suggestive; somewhat repetitive; but, an opening act? Director Ken Erhlich we...

Image
**** THE GLORIOUS CORNER Story By: G. H. HARDING **** The Band - Robbie Robertson, Richard Manuel, Rick Danko, Garth Hudson And Levon Helm CLASSIC BAND --- The euphoric response to iconic rock photographer Elliott Landy’s Kickstarter campaign has made his forthcoming book publication historic. And with pledges from over 700 supporters having surpassed the $150,000 mark – well more than double the original $65,000 goal – the countdown to bring Landy’s never-gathered-in-one-place art quality book of fine art photos of roots rock giants The Band to fans and photography collectors has now reached its final week. Already holding the title of second most funded photography campaign on the site, the Kickstarter campaign officially ends Tuesday, Jan. 28. “This level of success has surprised me and invigorated my desire to keep publishing this body of work from the Sixties,” says Landy. “I am really happy for the freedom this gives me to create my book wi...

BEATLE GEORGE HARRISON DOCUMENTARY

Image
**** THE WEB GOSSIP **** Ringo Starr DARK HORSE --- HBO has acquired the rights for director Marty Scorsese's documentary on George Harrison – George Harrison: Living In The Material World, and will air it in two parts on October 5 and 6. It will trace the arc of the Beatle's life with interviews with Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, Terry Gilliam, and Phil Spector, who’s now in prison. Harrison died in 2001 at the age of 58 after a battle with cancer. Harrison's wife Olivia Harrison, will release a book in late-September. It's a personal archive of photographs, letters, diaries and memorabilia from his life. On a personal note: I was always moved by Harrison's music. The more I listen to it now, I'm impressed still by its high caliber of creativity. His musicianship, from All Things Must Pass to his last full album Brainwashed just bristles with excitement. I know in Scorsese's hands, this will be a documentary well worth watching. George was my f...

HENRY DILTZ AND CALIFORNIA DREAMING

Image
Graham Nash with Joe Walsh and legend Ringo Starr along with Henry Diltz (Co-Owner of Morrison Hotel Gallery) and Monkee Micky Dolenz In the 60s, you weren't anyone till famed photographer HENRY DILTZ shot you. The Eagles; The Doors; The Monkee's; The Mamas and The Papas; The Byrds. Henry not only photographed them, but he knew them, hung out with them and partied with them. He was around when Jim Morrison wrote most of the Doors-catalog and around The Monkee's for their famed rise via TV. In fact, he helped the band arrange the famous shot for their MORRISON HOTEL. "I remember we spied the hotel and went in and asked if we could shot a photography ... the owner said no, so we just waited till he left and went in a shot as many shots as we could. Timing is everything." Micky Dolenz remembers those wild days with Henry well, "He was always there ... I think NBC first arranged those very first session with us, but from then on it was an instant connection. You...

BEATLE RINGO STARR'S MEMORY LANE

Image
Veteran rocker RINGO STARR’s memory isn’t what it used to be - he can’t remember playing on the debut album by his former Beatle bandmate GEORGE HARRISON.Drummer Starr actually performed on most of the classic 1970 triple album All Things Must Pass.He tells US magazine Rolling Stone, "I played on All Things Must Pass - which is funny because George called me (when he was preparing to reissue the album), and said, ‘Ringo, are you on All Things Must Pass?’ I said, ‘I don’t think so.I don’t know.’ "Then he calls back two weeks later after he’d researched it, and he says, ‘You f**ker, you were on 80 per cent of the record!’ I said, ‘Hey, it was a long time ago.’"

RINGO STARR TO PRESENT BRIT AWARD

Image
Ringo Starr will present Oasis with their Outstanding Contribution to Music BRIT award in place of Johnny Depp. The Beatles legend was approached by organisers after Johnny - who played guitar on the Oasis track 'Fade In/Out' on the band's 1997 album 'Be HereNow' - realised the event clashed with his filming schedule. Liam and Noel had threatened to snub this year's ceremony unless someone"amazing" presented them with their prestigious accolade. As self-confessed Beatles fanatics, they are thrilled that drummer Ringo will be handing them their statuette. A source told Britain's The Sun newspaper : "Noel is really excited. It is the ultimate accolade for the lads to be honoured by their heroes."It is something they have dreamed of ever since they were starting out at their Manchester bedrooms."Ringo already has a connection with Liam and Noel.
