Marci Geller Cathy Kreger If a producer walked into a major label these days and pitched releasing a compilation of three female singers, doing all original songs, and production, chances are that the producer would be laughed out the door. Regrettably, those days are long gone. Artist development, long a bandied about term in the music biz, is gone. Nowadays, it's usually a case of sampling this, downloading that, and, you have a record that cost almost nothing to make. You throw it out in the marketplace, and very quickly, if it's good, it will recoup its investment. SONIC UNDERGROUND, the little label that could ... has just released LUCKY 13 (on the eve of their 13th anniversary) which is a compilation of all original songs with terrific production, by CATHY KREGER; SUSAN DeVITA (left); and, MARCI GELLER, who runs the label with GIAN DiMAURO.
