ALEXANDRIA OCASIO-CORTEZ RESPONDS TO SANDERS CRITICISM ON 'THE VIEW'

 Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez On The View

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez responds to criticism that Sanders' policies are too radical.
The congresswoman says Sen. Sanders inspired her to run for office and explains why she’s endorsing him: “We want to talk about health care... a living wage... women’s rights... he did this when it was least convenient.”

“He was fighting for these things since before I was even born,” she adds.

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez says to the co-hosts that “Our entire political system revolves, frankly, around rich men, and rich men are not the center of my universe. Working families are.”

“We are not a moment that is disconnected from our past,” she says to Whoopi Goldberg on the progress made by previous generations.

“We are part of a long movement of ancestors and elders that we should always acknowledge.”

“The majority of Americans would vote for Bernie Sanders and that’s because of his record,” Rep. Ocasio-Cortez says when asked if Democratic voters could be more comfortable with a moderate candidate compared to the self-described democratic socialist senator.

When asked about Sen. Bernie Sanders’ reaction to the online attacks made by so-called ‘Bernie Bros,’ the congresswoman says, “We have to always reject hate, reject vitriol, and denounce that kind of behavior.”

On Mike Bloomberg, she says: “The power of his money is not disconnected from his stances on stop and frisk because when you have that much money and you purchase elections, you no longer have that sense of accountability to the people who voted for you.”

"Bernie's released the same amount of medical records as every other presidential candidate," she says about Bernie Sanders' medical records.

"They didn't all have a heart attack last year," Joy Behar says.

The Rep. adds: "If folks want more from him I think they should ask more of every single presidential candidate."

She welcomes primary challengers running for her Congressional seat: “I will never malign someone for trying to run… this is a democracy.”

“I’ve done exactly what I told my community I was going to do and I think that they were happy with that,” she adds.

Pres. Trump granted clemency to several high-profile convicts — including Rod Blagojevich, Michael Milken and Bernard Kerik. The co-hosts question the message Trump is sending.

“What bothers me about this is that there generally is a process in place," says Sunny Hostin. "There are many layers of review that happen. It appears to me that Trump did not go through that protocol.”

“What is really disconcerting is that it appears that... celebrity and people of status, people that have donated to his campaign got a leg up and that is not how this process is supposed to work,” Hostin continues.

“I think there should be a higher standard for pardoning," says Meghan McCain.

“I don't like a president having the ability to pardon," McCain continues. "I just don't like the precedent it sets. A president is not a judge.”
